RE: Open Routes Letters SY 2023-2024
The PGCPS Transportation Department's commitment to delivering efficient bus service to support our students and schools is greatly impacted by the continued shortage of qualified bus drivers (approximately 223 at this time). We appreciate the continued patience of our school communities as we solicit assistance from our educational colleagues in attempting to fill as many driver vacancies as possible over the upcoming months. Please help us to spread the word in your communities whenever you have the opportunity that we are still recruiting school bus drivers and direct any interested individuals to the PGCPS website for the application process and more details.
We are providing schools with a list of the scheduled bus routes that do not have a permanently assigned driver as of 8/28/2023 in order to assist your administrative staff in planning for anticipated delays of AM arrivals and PM departures of students. We will make alternative arrangements to make sure all students are picked up from your school at the earliest times possible, however, you can expect that these students are likely to be late until this is resolved. We also ask that you encourage parents to support us by transporting their kids to school if they are able. Schools should also anticipate possibly having more cars on campus for student drop-offs/pick-ups and should plan accordingly. We encourage schools to share the bus route information below with the impacted students/parents to help them prepare and consider other options where appropriate.
Thank you for your patience and continued support as we solve these challenges for our students.
