Spring 2022 Return to In-Person Learning

With the release of the COVID-19 vaccine for children under age 12, we look forward to welcoming back all kindergarten through sixth grade students in late January for in-person teaching and learning.

While we awaited the approval of the pediatric vaccine, PGCPS is proud to have been the only school system in Maryland to offer virtual learning to every elementary-aged student who requested it. The K-6 Virtual Learning Program was always designed to be a temporary accommodation for families with younger children during this waiting period. It will now end Friday, January 28, and students will return to school Monday, January 31.

Student safety remains our highest priority. The school system has undertaken a range of preventative safety measures, including mandatory mask-wearing, to help protect the students and families we serve. We continue to encourage all eligible individuals to get vaccinated. However, please note that even unvaccinated students must return.

Schools will provide families with more details to prepare for this transition.

For students with medical conditions, PGCPS offers Home and Hospital Teaching services, which is temporary instructional support to medically qualified students. It does not replicate classroom instruction or virtual learning.

We greatly appreciate the patience and flexibility that your family has shown since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
