    ...Where Leopards Leap for Excellence!

    School Year 2021 - 2022

    Carmen L. Bell, School Principal

    August 12, 2021

    Dear Longfields’ Families,

I hope you, your family and loved ones are having a relaxing and safe summer that is full of unforgettable memories and cautious adventures. It is with great pleasure that the Longfields’ Staff welcomes everyone to the 2021 - 2022 school year! We have been preparing for the return of our in-person Leopards, and we are looking forward to a year of high academic achievement despite the transformation of our educational systems and structures. Our educators have been engaged in professional learning opportunities designed to strengthen their understanding of bridging and new curricula. Additionally, our committed Building Services team has been thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting our building in preparation for the return of our leopards. Our building will be brighter and more beautiful than ever.

Students are scheduled to begin the 2021 - 2022 school year on September 8th and are in school five days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 1:55 p.m. Please ensure your child(ren) arrives to school on time, with only a few exceptions. Students are considered tardy if they arrive after 7:45 a.m. There is no virtual option this year, unless your child has already enrolled in the PGCPS Online Campus. Parents have until August 20th by 11:59 p.m. to apply for the Online Campus waitlist. See the application HERE

As done in previous years, parents will still be able to meet the teacher during one of two meeting forums.

    (1) Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Grade 1, and new families will be invited to an in-person Orientation Day on Friday, September 3rd. Families will be invited to visit the physical classroom and meet the teacher during staggered times. See the flyer for more information HERE.

    (2) All returning students will be able to meet their teacher during our virtual Mock School Day on Friday, September 3rd. Families are invited to enter the virtual classroom to meet the teacher, discuss schedules, review instructional/routine expectations and ask questions. See the flyer for more information HERE.

On August 24th from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., I will hold a parent meeting through Zoom to share the structure of our in-person learning program, reference the Parent/Student Handbook and answer your questions. See the flyer HERE. Please visit the school website for updates, event/activity dates, supply lists, and other pertinent information. See below for a few more important dates:

School supply lists have been updated by Longfields Elementary School HERE and on our website. Just Google Longfields. Please read carefully through the lists and contact the school with questions. Please be reminded that students will be required to wear school uniforms: white collared tops and navy blue bottoms. See the uniform list in the Parent/Student Handbook and on our website.

Communication between home and school is critical, especially during a time when circumstances can change overnight. I will provide information to parents via Remind, Dojo, email, call-outs, the webpage, and Twitter (@es_longfields). To join Remind (text messages), send the text message: @bg3acac76e to 81010

Our district-wide review of safety and security in schools generated recommendations for our school and community to follow. As a result, see the following:

    • As a reminder, there is no parking permitted directly at the curb in front of the school.

    • Abide by the new Kiss and Ride procedures and reduce speed as you pull up and pull away from the drop off/coned area (IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING).

    • All school visitors must have proper, state-issued identification to access our building. Access to Longfields is by appointment only. Please note that morning appointments will be limited, to help teachers and staff safely prepare for the arrival of students. The Main Office will not schedule any appointments  after 3pm.All staff will be required to wear their district-issued identification.

    • Unfortunately, parents will not be permitted to walk their students to class, as we usually do the first two days of school.

    Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)

Longfields Elementary is a wonderful school because parents and staff work together for the good of the students and we are working to strengthen this bond.  This can not be accomplished without parental support and the volunteer contributions of parents just like you! We would like to announce our PTO Board (see below). As you can see, we are looking for parent volunteers to support Longfields and join the PTO Board. This board services the entire school body, and without this level of support, great opportunities are missed. The board has already established the board meeting dates, first few PTO sponsored events, and PTO meetings. More information is forthcoming.
