    Parental Information

    Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA)

    The DDA is the primary State agency that funds community-based services and supports people with developmental disabilities.  According to the site “The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) funds employment, day, residential and support services for people with developmental disabilities.”  This agency will provide funds for students with developmental disabilities at the age of 21.

    Low Intensity Support Services (LISS)

    The Developmental Disabilities Administration’s Low Intensity Support Services (LISS) Program serves children living at home with their family and adults with developmental disabilities living in their own home in the community who are not receiving any support services from the DDA.   The LISS Program mission is to ensure individuals and families have equality and access to short-term funding opportunities. This is achieved through a Random Selection process. The Random Selection process is an automated system that selects LISS applicants who are eligible for LISS funding.  The agency that handles the application process is Maryland Community Connection

    Medical Assistance (Medicaid)

    The Medical Assistance Program helps individuals and families pay for medical care. Assistance can include payments for doctor's visits, exams, prescription costs, hospital bills, payment of Medicare premiums, etc.  A little known fact…  Medicaid will pay for diapers and pull ups when they are a medical necessity.

    Department of Human Services/ Department of Social Services

    The Department of Social Services has resources for such things as food stamps, temporary cash assistance,and energy assistance.  All of the services are organized under the Family Investment Administration (FIA).   The office is 805 Brightseat Road Landover, MD 20785.  The phone number is 301-909-6000.

    The Arc of Prince George’s County

    The Arc of PG County is a great organization for individuals with developmental disabilities to join to receive information on many subjects, including present and future planning, training workshops; and advocacy news.  It is a great organization to connect parents who do have children with developmental disabilities.  The Arc also has adult day programs and socialization activities.

    Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission

    Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC).  There are a variety of recreational activities and programs for children with special needs.  There are also some wonderful parks in Prince George's County (and other counties in Maryland!)
