The Office of Intramural Training & Education at the National Institutes of Health is seeking motivated, hard-working students who are interested in STEM careers to apply to the High School Scientific Training and Enrichment Programs (HiSTEP for juniors and HiSTEP 2.0 for seniors)! This is a paid summer internship opportunity and we are specifically seeking students who have little to no prior out-of-school STEM hands-on experiences.

When:  Tuesday, December 15th at 4pm

      REGISTER HERE: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/6976810707918634763

      HIstep2021

If you are unable to attend live, the recording will be available by following the same link after the session.

      About the programs:

In HiSTEP, rising high school seniors (current juniors) explore the biomedical sciences and STEM careers through a variety of activities over six weeks (June 29-Aug 5).  Students leave the program with a better understanding of available biomedical careers, skills to continue career exploration, a support network of mentors, and a college application foundation and plan for the fall.

In HiSTEP 2.0, rising college freshmen (current seniors) have the opportunity to spend seven weeks  (June 21-Aug 6) as a summer intern (virtually) working under the mentorship of NIH research scientists and clinicians. In addition, students participate in a curriculum that prepares them for the transition to college.

Please visit the website for each program to learn more about eligibility requirements and to begin an application.

    • Bulldog Bulletin Anchor and Content Producers Positions

      Dear Bulldog Nation,

"The Bulldog Bulletin” is our morning show that has aired in the building for the past 11 years, mostly on a daily basis. It serves as our flagship news source for all things dealing with the Burgundy and Blue.
We cover general announcements, clubs and sports, and a variety of other topics that affect all of us at BHS.

In these unprecedented times, we obviously cannot do the traditional live broadcast, but I am looking for anchors who can deliver a script that I will
( mostly ) provide for you. If interested, you must be able to record yourself reading it in a charismatic and engaging way with good sound and igniting, and be able to send it to me on a DEADLINE. It may possibly evolve into a LIVE zoom version. But for now, it will be pre-recorded, I will edit a master version, and it will be uploaded to:
      www.youtube.com/bhstvmd
If this sounds like something you'd like to do, join the Bulldog Bulletin 2020 - 2021 Google Classroom with the following group codei7yg2mb

I'd also love to have content producers to report on things and put pieces together.

The following must apply to you to participate:
      1. You have to have a 2020-2021 PGCPS Publicity Release on file with me that says we can use your image and voice. No “opt-outs.”
      2. You must be in good academic standing (2.5 or better at progress report time. If not, you can apply later when your grades come up)
      3. Again, you HAVE to be able to supply your (probably pre-recorded) parts on a deadline or be able to meet for an as-yet-to-be-determined Zoom meeting.
      4. Anchors/hosts will have to supply an audition video. See Google Classroom page for details.

*NOTE - This is for experience and service hours ONLY and does not count for extra credit or any compensation (other than a senior cord for graduation)

I look forward to hearing from you,

      Mark Arcusa

PGCPS Distance Learning Hotline will provide live assistance to parents/families in order to address and resolve concerns arising during the period of Distance Learning for students.   Parent/Guardians can call 240-696-6229 on Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM for live assistance for technical/equipment issues and/or instructional guidance and support.

      Parent Centers

PGCPS heard from parents and guardians during the implementation of distance learning this past winter/spring 2020 – assistance was needed in the areas of technology, instruction, and other supports. Thus we have strategically designated locations throughout PGCPS where parents can receive assistance with technology, accessing and navigating platforms, and other troubleshooting.

The safety of parents and staff is paramount.  Social distancing will be adhered to. Site stipulations require that all visitors wear masks. Visitors should arrive at their designated appointment time and will be instructed that only one person may enter the facility per family and children may not enter the facility.  The temperature of each center worker and each visitor will be scanned upon entry into the site.  Anyone with a temperature greater than 100 degrees will not be allowed to remain on site.  No children are allowed into the Support Center.  Parents must make arrangements for their child’s safety outside of the Parent Support Center.
