    Objective:
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program designed for students with a 2.0-3.5 grade point average who show great promise and potential.  Students selected for this course will take rigorous academic classes throughout the day and attend the AVID elective course every other day for the entire year during their Creative Arts sessions.  In this elective course, they will learn strategies for achieving their goals in middle and high school by focusing on the following topics: organizational strategies, Character Education, Cornell Notes note taking system, time management, tutorials, and Socratic seminars.  Throughout the year, they will attend guest speaker lectures and visit high schools and colleges as well as cultural and team building events in order to gain a clear understanding of what lies ahead concerning their academic future.

AVID students in their second year will be expected to employ all strategies from first year AVID and to gain a better understanding of what will be expected of them in high school and beyond.
    Mission Statement:
The mission of AVID is to ensure that ALL students, and most especially the least served students are in the middle:
    - will succeed in rigorous curriculum
    - will complete a college preparatory path
    - will enter mainstream activities of the school
    - will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges, and
    - will become educated, responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.
