POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direction of the Accounts
Payable Manager, Accountant II, and Accounts Payable Technician, performs
clerical tasks of moderate difficulty in processing invoices and recording
related accounting information. The Accounts Payable Clerk I in this class
follows established procedures but exercises judgment in performing accounting
clerical operations. Work may also require the preparation of regular and
special reports and include use of a computer. Work is performed under general
supervision.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Responsible for the
timely and accurate invoice processing on a daily basis, including calculation
and balancing all items that need to be withdrawn from the payment batch;
Balances payment
batches for senior staff to process;
Processes all employee
reimbursements submitted on a Disbursement Authority (DA) form or simple
iExpense requests including calculating for accuracy, checking for appropriate
support and verifying approval of reimbursement request;
Researches and resolves
employee reimbursement discrepancies submitted for payment;
Researches status of all
past due invoices on vendor statement and assists the Accounts Payable Clerk II
with additional research/documentation as necessary;
Processes all Stop
Payment requests;
Provides back up for Accounts
Payable Control Clerk and Accounts Payable Assistant;
Accurately captures
image of all Accounts Payable paid invoices; and
Performs other duties
as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge of modern
clerical account keeping practices;
General computer
skills, including MS Office and Oracle;
Working knowledge of
accounts payable practices;
Knowledge of office procedures,
terminology, equipment, business math and English;
Ability to understand
and follow simple oral and written instructions;
Ability to write
legibly and have good oral and written communications skills;
Ability to get along
well with others, including good customer service skills;
Clerical aptitude, mental
alertness, tact and courtesy; and
Ability to deal
courteously and tactfully with customers.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED required with some clerical
account keeping experience including or supplemented by course work in typing,
data entry, bookkeeping or other tabulating machines; two to three years of
progressively responsible experience in a large office environment and general
clerical work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which
provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
