POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the
direction of the Principal, the Character Education Support Coordinator is responsible
for coordinating program operations and various student support programs such
as Character Education and Family Life Renewal. This work involves researching,
enhancing and expanding the current range of services to students and families.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Executes and coordinates Family Life program operations in
adherence with the charter;
Serves as primary liaison with the school, PGCPS and the community
at large;
Develops and implements a uniform referral process for accessing
needs of the parents and students;
Develops and maintains a database of all students and families being
serviced at the school;
Works in concert and collaboration with all partners in the
delivery of services to students and families in support of school readiness at
age five (5);
Works to expand the current range of parenting training and services
available for families;
Seeks out additional funding through partnership building to
continue the enhancement and expansion of the program;
Communicates and disseminates information about character education
with all partners, public and private entities, media, state officials, etc.;
Conducts community outreach to expand services to students and
families monthly and completes quarterly reports and all evaluations as
required;
Monitors and coordinates all character education program
activities on site;
Serves as a resource to parents for community linkage;
Interfaces with all departments on site to assure adherence to the
charter which is granted by PGCPS;
Tracks
and evaluates parent attendance at all programs to maintain the Charter
Agreement (75% parent participation at all school mandated events);
Organizes,
facilitates and participates in family weekends and retreats twice a year in
order to implement the school’s philosophy, principles, commitment to the
school and their children;
Maintains
communication to parents to continue to promote the Parent Partnership
Agreement via email, telephone, monthly parent bulletins and quarterly
newsletters;
Assists
with parent handbooks in conjunction with the school’s administration that
align with the charter;
Assists
with the orientation of new parents to character education and parent
obligations through the family renewal program;
Researches
and provides ongoing character education training to parents, students and
staff;
Provides
school-wide effective incentives and opportunities to develop and demonstrate
character throughout the school/community;
Helps
to infuse the character education program (fostering family renewal);
Organizes
and facilitates monthly parent meetings to teach the necessary tools that will
enable them to foster their own growth in creating a character culture in the
home; and
Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Ability to participate in family weekends at least twice a year;
Ability to research and desegregate student data and make strategic
decisions on the analysis of the data;
Demonstrated leadership in working with students, staff, parents
and the general public;
Experience in family life integration activities, professional
development or structured programs preferred;
Knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process;
Experience with the use of technology;
Experience working with families collaboratively and/or community
agencies in outreach activities; experience working with diverse populations;
Demonstrated organizational and management skills; and
Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as human
relations and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a
related field preferred. Character education
training preferred.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
None Required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
