POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the General Counsel, the E-Discovery Specialist is responsible for managing e-discovery projects and assignments.  The incumbent of this position will use technology to facilitate the legal discovery process and manage electronic data.  The E-Discovery Specialist will advise and assist attorneys and support staff on e-discovery matters, and provide litigation technology support to attorney staff.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Advises staff on e-discovery protocol and keeps staff abreast of e-discovery developments;

Drafts e-discovery guidance based upon rules, regulations and case law related to e-discovery and information management; develops and codifies e-discovery practices, protocol and trainings;

Takes proactive measures to address the anticipated e-discovery needs of the Office of General Counsel;

Creates and monitors litigation holds; monitors and tracks notices of claims and resolutions;

Identifies and reviews responsive documents and evaluates for disclosure;

Manages case files, ensuring that summaries are properly prepared and updated, litigation files are properly and securely maintained, and records and documents needed for litigation are collected and organized;

Communicates with external counsel, court personnel and administrative agencies on cases and legal matters; communicates with courts and administrative agencies as needed;

Assists with mailing and filing motions in Prince George’s County Circuit Court, District Court and the U.S. District Court;

Works closely with attorney staff to provide guidance and expertise in handling litigation involving e-discovery cases; prepares and assists attorney staff with trial preparation;

Ensures legal department files are maintained and destroyed in compliance with record retention policies and procedures;

Assists in maintaining case notes and assists with the use of case management tools; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Knowledge of Maryland e-discovery law;

Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, both legal and technical e-discovery disciplines;

Excellent writing and interpersonal skills;

Exhibits good judgment;

Experience providing counseling on e-discovery matters;

Ability to serve as an expert witness, if needed;

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools and/or Google tools; and

Excellent communication and effective decision making skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in information technology, legal studies or a closely related field.  In lieu of the education requirement, a minimum of five (5) years of e-discovery project management experience may be substituted.
