POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the direction of the Instructional Supervisor for Special Education – Early
Childhood, the Early Intervention Liaison provides support for the physical and
instruction needs of students with disabilities, age birth to four. This
position is characterized by the performance of responsible duties involved in
the implementation of a program and/or related activities in the custodial care
of infants and toddlers. The incumbent
will assist in providing physical care and individualized program plans for the
emotional, mental, physical and social growth of infants and toddlers at early
childhood centers and other designated sites.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Supports early intervention
opportunities for infants and toddlers with an Individualized Family Support
Plan (IFSP) in various settings;
Assists families with scheduled
appointments, documents and community resources;
Provides coaching to families on service
delivery and establishing routines;
Works with children, families, educators
and other professional personnel in supporting the intake process to include
initial evaluations, the transition process and parent engagement activities;
Addresses children’s personal care
needs, assisting with tasks such as toileting, feeding, dressing, and
addressing behavioral needs under the direction of an infants and toddlers’
educator and/or program coordinator;
Sets up, operates and models the use of
equipment and assistive technology to support student learning outcomes and
communication; provides coaching to educators, service providers and parents;
Engages in daily and extended planning
of activities with educators; keeps educators informed of student progress and
learning needs by collecting data and anecdotal records (i.e., work samples);
Performs tasks in support of the infants
and toddlers program such as taking attendance, bus duty, upkeep of bulletin
boards, preparing instructional materials and supporting instruction;
Maintains confidentiality as it relates
to student records, IFSPs, student files and health information;
Operates standard office machines to
produce instructional materials; sorts, arranges and files student materials
and related documents;
Assists in maintaining a safe and clean
learning environment for infants and toddlers;
Attends staff meetings and other
professional development training; and
Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge
of and familiarity with best practices in the field of special education ad
early intervention services;
Ability
to successfully handle a variety of diversified tasks associated with planning
and implementing an effective and responsive early intervention program for
infants and toddlers;
Ability
to assist infants and toddlers with personal care/hygiene needs, such as
diapering, toilet training, bath rooming, clothing and feeding;
Ability
to be flexible in regards to change in assignments within location or from
location to location;
Ability
to physically assist students, such as lifting, transferring and other physical
activities required to care for infants and toddlers with physical
disabilities;
Ability
to work cooperatively with and provide a broad range of assistance to program
personnel;
Ability
to act as a liaison with families, school staff and community agencies;
knowledge of community resources;
Good oral
and written communication skills;
Ability
to maintain central record system and to prepare reports for research data;
working knowledge of or ability to learn technology/computer skills; and
Ability
to use personal and reliable transportation to access different program
locations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma supplemented
with additional coursework and/or training in special education or early
childhood education required; Associate’s degree preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of experience
working with early childhood students required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
