POSITION SUMMARY:


TheElectrical Maintenance Foreman II plans, directs and supervises electrical and electronic services for all buildings of Prince George’s County Public Schools. This position coordinates the work of shop and field service crews providing electrical and electronic installations and maintenance repair work on building electrical and electronic systems audiovisual and other electronic equipment. Work is evaluated relative to standards of minimal electrical/electronic systems down time or malfunctioning. The Maintenance Foreman II is responsible for assigning, directing, participating and inspecting the efforts of crews composed of Electronic Technicians, Electricians and Apprentices, Trades Helpers in the installation and repair of electronic/electrical systems.  As the responsible representative for the public school organization, inspects all completed work that requires permits prior to the inspection by Prince George’s County Department of Licenses and Permits. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, who allows the incumbent considerable independent judgment in determining work methods and procedures. Work is reviewed through an appraisal of results obtained, considering both quantity and quality of production.  

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Plans, schedules, assigns and checks the work performed by crews, generally composed of crew foreman, journeymen and trades helper level of tradesmen involved in the construction, maintenance and repair of electronic/electrical services in remodeled buildings or building interiors control circuitry. Repair and maintenance of public address, interoffice communications, master clock, fire alarm systems and other electronic equipment and systems;

Works with administrative supervisors, school principals and other school system and public agency officials and others in the definition of current and future maintenance needs as well as the establishment of schedules and priorities for both capital and day-to-day construction and maintenance activities; maintains records of projects underway and completed; prepares periodic reports of work performed; develops priorities;

Trains journeymen and trades helper personnel in electronic/electrical maintenance methods, techniques and standards; introduces innovations in the electronic/electrical field to subordinates based upon a current knowledge of new innovations in the field;

Participates in the interviewing and hiring of personnel, ensures accuracy and maintains time worked and related personnel records; participates in evaluation of employee performance; resolves disciplinary problems;

Participates in electrical inspections, as necessary, to ensure compliance of contractors as well as county personnel with electrical codes; and

Performs related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle (see Prince George’s County Public School’s Bulletin A-26-85 dated October 4, 1984);

Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and equipment involved in both the electrical construction and maintenance trades; thorough knowledge of supervisory principles and practices involved in the operation and control of a large number and variety of tradesmen;

Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions to be observed in the electronic/electrical maintenance trade;

Deemed as essential personnel; and may be required to work day, night or weekend hours to meet the operational needs of the department;

Ability to plan, lay out, supervise and review the work of a large number (20 or more)  subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;

Ability to effectively coordinate the activities of a number of shop and field crews, as necessary, to effect full utilization of equipment, personnel and materials; and

Ability to maintain records of work performed and periodically summarize in report form such information; Ability to state ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.  

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

High school diploma and thorough progressively responsible experience in electrical maintenance work, including responsible foreman or supervisory work. A minimum three (3) to five (5) years’ experience as a licenses electrician.

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Master Electrician License for the State of Maryland and Prince Georges County. Is considered the responsible representative for Prince George’s County Public Schools in applying for permits to accomplish certain electrical/electronic work.


 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Supervises electrical and electronic services for all buildings of the Prince George’s County Public Schools.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
