Under the general supervision of the Electrician Master Foreman, the Electrician II supervises and performs skilled work as a Journeyman Electrician and Project Foreman in the maintenance, repair and extension of electrical wiring and equipment in school buildings and facilities. This is highly skilled work involving responsibility for the performance of difficult and specialized electrical maintenance, installation and repair operations. General assignments are received from Supervisors, but Electrician II(s) are expected to plan details of each job and carry it to completion without immediate supervision. Work involves independent judgment in assigning duties and selecting electrical methods to meet job requirements. Supervision is often exercised over the work of Trades Helpers and Electricians. This class differs from Electrician I due to the supervision exercised over various projects and personnel, including planning, scheduling and procuring materials.   

 

Supervises a project and also repairs and installs electrical equipment, switchboards, and distribution panels; repairs switches, relays, receptacles, lights and fuses;

Runs underground cables and strings overhead wires; installs wire and repairs electric transformers;

Wires buildings and makes additions to existing wiring; installs outlets and wiring for computers and computer networks;

Installs and repairs fluorescent and general lighting fixtures and connections;

Installs and maintains remote control devises for magnetic motor connections;

Installs, adjust and maintains utility motors and appliances; repairs and maintains electric motors; repairs kitchen appliances, motors and boiler equipment;

Installs electric call bells and buzzers, installs and repairs fire alarm systems and associated wiring and devices;

Supervises various projects and is capable of understanding and interpreting codes, standards, blueprints, construction drawings and electrical diagrams;

Installs and repairs emergency standby generators, transfer switches and controls for emergency generators; and

Performs related work as required.

 

 

 

Prince George's County Journeyman Electrician License (CB-40-2000 DR-2) required;

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.;

Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, tools and terminology of the electrical trade;

Thorough knowledge of elementary electrical theory; ability to install, maintain and make repairs to complicated electrical wiring, fixtures, fire alarm systems, emergency generator systems and equipment, etc.;

Sufficient agility to work above ground and from ladders, scaffolding and bucket trucks; ability to assign work, supervise and carry a job through to completion;

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; steady nerves; strength to perform manual labor using ladders and scaffolding; good physical condition; and

Willingness to work day or evening hours as required.

 

 

 

Prince George's County Journeyman Electrician License (CB-402000 DR-2) required, Master Electrician License preferred; with considerable experience as a Journeyman Electrician, some of which shall have been at the level of an Electrician I. Completion of high school, standard vocational school course(s), GED or recognized apprenticeship in the trade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
