POSITION SUMMARY:
The Facility
Coordinator serves as area Supervisor for custodial operations and
takes directions from the Supervisor of Operations. Inspects and monitors custodial operations
in an assigned area to ensure attainment of departmental goals. The incumbent will be responsible for hiring,
approving payroll, training, evaluating and initiating disciplinary action,
when necessary. This employee will oversee
the processing of facility use requests for use by outside organizations of
schools in assigned area, and oversee the ordering of custodial supplies for
schools in assigned area.
The Facilities Coordinator
will be responsible for maintaining the prescribed sanitary and operating
standards in the school plant and facilities in an assigned community school
group. This employee will have the overall responsibility of providing
training, assigning, overseeing, and inspecting the work of custodial personnel
and providing support to schools assigned to the community school group.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Inspects
school system facilities to evaluate the physical and sanitary condition of
buildings, equipment and grounds. Responsible for developing improvement plans,
accountability, and improvement of the custodial
program, and workforce;
Meets
with and supports school based administrators to determine priorities of action
required for support custodial operations, repairs, preventative maintenance
and sanitation standards;
Responsible for overseeing snow removal and
the mitigation of other weather and non-weather related issues. Develop and
communicate plans of action and standard operating procedures;
Prioritizes and designates assignments of work to the operation
and service level personnel;
Performs
administrative and supervisory duties requiring effective verbal, written, and
computer communication skills;
Conducts interviews, and create standard operating
procedures;
Represents the department in meetings with
school staff and community partners;
Conducts
workforce development training for custodial operation, management boiler and
safety;
Oversees and
assists with ordering and maintaining inventory of custodial supplies and
equipment;
Notifies
the Supervisor and Principal, and may initiate disciplinary action of any
instances he/she observes that is inadequate or inappropriate service and
methods of operation, poor workmanship, or improper conduct or behavior which
may be pertinent to his/her area;
Implements
schedules for special projects, improvements, and daily routines in his/her
assigned area and provides the Director and Principal with status of such work;
Determines
resource requirements and recommends cost-effective solution strategies;
Incumbent must work
flexible hours to provide oversight for evening work force: on call 24 hours a
day, seven days a week and will respond to emergency situations in a timely
manner.
Deemed as essential
personnel; may be required to work day, night or weekend hours to meet
the operational needs of the department.
Performs
related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Possession
of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with a
driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points, of which no more
than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations
occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle;
Considerable
knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of custodial operation,
plant management, equipment and grounds maintenance, repairs and operation;
Thorough
knowledge of construction methods, utilities, building equipment fabrication,
regulation and maintenance;
Thorough
knowledge of custodial service practices and principles;
Ability
to plan, implement and evaluate;
Possess
skills in personnel, financial and administrative management, including the
ability to develop effective work standards and schedules;
Ability
to initiate correspondence and to prepare professional reports; and
Skill
in human relations, communication, and effective decision-making abilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation
from college or a university preferred with a degree in Construction Management,
Engineering, and Business Administration with three to five years’ experience
in custodial operation or a related field, with technical and supervisory
experience in plant management, engineering or maintenance.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
None Required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend meetings with central office. Assist administrators in assigned area with personnel issues. Initiate disciplinary procedures for all personnel under the auspices of Plant Operations.
Oversees assigned facilities.
