POSITION SUMMARY:
The
incumbent of this position is responsible for processing and maintaining meal
benefit records/files for use in the National School Lunch Free and Reduced
Price Meal Program for the school system. Duties and responsibilities include
the performance of skilled tasks using customized school meal program software
in the maintenance of the meal benefit form files.
This
position provides support to parents/guardians responsible for completing the
meal benefit form through written and telephone contact, individual initiative
is important and employees in this class are free to improve upon existing
methods or recommend new methods and techniques to accomplish assigned duties.
The work is performed under the general supervision of the Food Services
Application Center Program Manager.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Processes and maintains the applications and
files for the school system’s Free and Reduced price Meal Program;
Maintains files, records and reports of a
critical nature in addition to routine correspondence and files;
Answers inquiries and prepares routine
correspondence;
Confirms print requests and distribution of
applications to all schools;
Assists parents/guardians in completing forms;
Receives completed applications from schools
and processes applications;
Establishes, maintains and updates data records
using a customized school meal software program, inputting directly into the
computer any necessary information needed;
Provides information to create electronic files
and provide free and reduced price meal data;
Files all completed applications, including the
storage of yearly benefits program forms for data/reference purposes;
Attends planning and training meetings
regarding the processing of meal benefits forms;
Provides ongoing telephone support; answers
questions from parents/guardians and school personnel;
Meets the annual continuing education/training
education requirements for USDA Professional Standards for School Nutrition
Employees; and
Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Good knowledge of School Lunch Meal
Benefit Program;
Working knowledge of the processing of
meal benefit forms and required information beneficial;
Ability to make decisions based upon
experience, good judgment and established policies;
Ability to operate a computer with
proficiency, including all Microsoft Office applications and relational
database applications;
Ability to type at the required rate of
speed (45 wpm);
Ability to treat information, data, and
records confidentially;
Good oral and written communication and
human relations skills;
Strong organizational skills;
Ability to handle information in a
confidential manner;
Ability to work independently;
Ability to enter data for extended
periods of time using customized software;
Ability to perform multiple tasks,
sometimes under stressful conditions; and
Ability to follow directions.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from high school with one to three years of
progressively responsible experience in processing and records management; or
any other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which
provides the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively
in the position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
