POSITION SUMMARY:
The Food Services Specialist is responsible for ensuring quality
control, training and accountability of food services operations in a select
number of schools. Primary responsibilities are to oversee operations of
assigned schools. Work includes assisting with identifying areas in need of
specific food services training, maintaining standards and procedures and
conducting training for food services personnel. The work is performed under
the direction of the Food Services Supervisors together with support from Food
Services Supervisor of Operations.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Ensures quality control,
training and monitoring of operations in a select number of schools;
Serves as liaison between
Food Services Supervisor and Supervisor of Food Services Operations and
managers and staff of assigned schools;
Maintains effective
communications with central office staff, schools staff and community;
Assists with identifying
areas in need of specific training;
Assists with implementing
training programs and conducting training for food services personnel in
assigned areas;
Assists food services
managers with the development and implementation of work schedule process;
Monitors production for
compliance with established sanitation and safety standards;
Assists food services
managers and staff with appropriate accountability requirements, maintaining
records and insuring compliance with all USDA regulations;
Provides creative
leadership cultivating new ideas and activities;
Communicates concerns to
the Food Services Supervisor and Supervisor of Food Services Operations about
policies and procedures;
Reports immediately to the
Food Services Supervisor any problems with which assistance will be needed to
resolve an issue at an assigned school;
Assists Food Services
Managers to motivate staff to high productivity and teach food services skills
to ensure efficiency;
Works with school
administrators, food services personnel, students and parents, and assists with
marketing of the food services program to students, staff and community;
Interprets and implements
policies and procedures for county-wide operations of food services;
Meets the annual continuing
education/training requirements for USDA Professional Standards for School
Nutrition Employees; and
Performs related work as
required.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Good knowledge of Child and Adult nutrition; through knowledge of large-scale cooking practices;
Thorough knowledge of sanitary requirements;
Thorough knowledge of planning menus, determining quantities of food required and scheduling the ordering of food;
Ability to plan and organize cafeteria operations and schedule work;
Ability to train Food Services Mangers;
Ability to establish effective working relationships with Food Services Managers, Principals and the Public;
Ability to work independently and with a team; good communication skills, both oral and written; and
Basic computer skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a standard high school course, preferably completion of some college courses in nutrition and food services practices with at least 5 years of continuous food service experience.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a current Certified Food Handler Certification.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees the food services operations in an assigned number of schools.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
