POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, the incumbent will support all aspects of project management, development and fundraising for the Excellence in Education Foundation for PGCPS, Inc., which will come from a diverse range of sources including foundations, government, organizations, businesses, major donors, individuals, grants and events.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Plan, manage and execute a comprehensive foundations relations program for the Excellence in Education Foundation for PGCPS, Inc. that supports the strategic goals of Prince George’s County Public Schools;

Identify, cultivate and solicit the development of strong and supportive relationships with all stakeholder groups including corporate foundations, government entities, organizations, businesses, major donors, individuals and for-profit and non-profit entities;

Organize and implement all aspects of fundraising – both monetary and in-kind – for foundation events (e.g., Golfing for Education Tournament, Walk/Run for Education, Gala Celebration for Corporate and Business Partners, etc.);

Direct and manage the work of the foundation’s Board of Directors;

Develop and implement strategies to support fund development and fundraising;

Establish procedures for the recruitment, screening, orientation, utilization and recognition of volunteers who support the work of the Excellence in Education Foundation for PGCPS, Inc.;

Conduct research for potential sources of funding, including grants, past contributors, new donors, corporate contributors and foundations;

Create promotional materials to support all fundraising events;

Act as an intermediary for school and central office personnel, parents, the public, private and other government agencies;

Answer varied inquiries and resolves problems to support the process of fundraising;

Make necessary arrangements for all events including space, time, volunteers, materials, etc.;

Support schools with their fundraising efforts by providing direction and training as needed;

Oversee the status of profits/losses, funds raised, etc.;

Acknowledge donations received and prepare appropriate thank you letters;

Work collaboratively with Treasurer to annually prepare/send official donation acknowledgement(s) including fair market value estimates for costs of goods or services received in connection with the donation;

Properly track and efficiently document all fundraising activities;

Properly track all donations and grant payments, maintain electronic and paper filing systems for all donations established;

Compile and send out information packs to potential donors and supporters; and

Serve as liaison with suppliers and order materials for fundraising events and preparing all materials in advance of any events.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Must have considerable knowledge of public education, the news media, local government and related political processes;

Must have a high degree of technical competence and the communicative talents;

Must have a friendly and professional speaking voice with strong phone etiquette skills;

Must be a strong and positive salesperson;

Must possess the ability to negotiate, build and maintain relationships and inspire others;

Must have a keen understanding of a varied number of fundraising techniques including: committed giving, direct marketing and corporate giving;

Must demonstrate successful experience as a fundraiser;

Must demonstrate successful experience as an event coordinator;

Must have exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills;

Must have the ability to think analytically;

Must be an excellent oral and written communicator;

Must have effective public speaking skills;

Must have good physical condition; and

Must have proficiency in standard office computer software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business management, public relations or a related field; or at least ten (10) years of successful experience working in the business community; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position.
