POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Glazier I replaces broken glass in metal and wood sashes, aquariums, greenhouses and other appurtenances.   An employee in this class replaces broken glass in accordance with accepted standards and procedures of the trade. The employee exercises skill in the selection of the proper glass or Plexiglas used in the repair and in the use of proper procedures for sealing the glass in appliances, aquariums and other school fixtures or equipment.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Removes broken panes and cleans sashes with chisel or hacking knife;

Replaces glass or Plexiglas panes using chips, gasket, sealant or glazing compound;

Removes glass in aquariums, ovens, incubators and other equipment by melting out old sealant and gaskets and cleaning surfaces with wire brush and abrasives;

Replaces with proper types of glass with gasket and sealant;

Checks for leaks in aquariums, ovens and other equipment in which glass has been replaced;

Measures and cuts glass to size;

Drives truck and keeps properly supplied with tools, glass and materials;

May supervise the work of an Apprentice or Trades Helper; and

Performs related duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Good knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices of the trade;

Good knowledge of the various types of glass and Plexiglas and their uses; and

Skill in the use and care of hand tools; and must be in good physical condition.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Completion of ninth grade or trade school course supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the trade; some experience in glazing work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. (See Prince George's County Public Schools Bulletin A-26-85 dated October 8, 1984).

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
