POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Graphic Designer will help drive the school system’s image through conceptualization, design, execution and production of collateral for staff, students, families and community.   The incumbent will perform as a creative strategist, working with the communications team and the departments we serve to imagine and execute visual components of campaigns and initiatives that advance the school system’s strategic initiatives and tell our stories of equity and excellence. The Graphic Designer will be responsible for a wide variety of design projects to enhance the Prince George’s County Public Schools’ brand and image in print and digital spaces

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Conceptualizes creative and compelling graphic concepts to support school system and department campaigns, web content, publications and marketing collateral;

Plays a leading role in executing Prince George’s County Public Schools’ content strategy through the development of multimedia content, including but not limited to: graphics to support events and campaigns, infographics and social media content with an emphasis on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube;

Creates graphics for multiple platforms or venues, and tailors to target audience;

Establishes creative direction and brand consistency for Prince George’s County Public Schools’ visual assets and presence;

Studies design briefs and determines requirements;

Develops digital graphics that inform and drive engagement;

Coordinates meetings to collaborate, present ideas and gather information for accurate and effective presentations of graphic designs;

Uses colors, illustrations, fonts and layouts to visually communicate messages or present services for Prince George’s County Public Schools;

Designs logos, product packaging, print materials and websites;

Executes layout and design for the district’s communication tools and publications;

Amends designs after feedback, as necessary;

Ensures final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand; and

Performs other duties as assigned.



 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design principles, including layout, color theory and typography;

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator Adobe Premiere, After Effects and Final Cut Pro;

Advanced knowledge of best practices and designs for social media platforms;

Knowledge of interactive media, including presentations, animations and/or short promotional videos;

Knowledge of best practices for American Disability Act (ADA) compliance; 

Strong problem-solving and communication skills;

Ability to organize complex concepts/data into clear, easy to understand graphic format;

Outstanding customer service skills and possess the ability to work with staff from all levels of the organization;

Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities under tight deadlines;

Ability to proactively conceptualize graphic design needs for school system initiatives, campaigns and events;

Strong organizational skills;

Ability to work successfully in a team environment and independently; and

 

Videography/photography//multimedia skills are highly valued.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in graphic arts/design or related field required.  A minimum of three (3) years relevant experience, preferably in the education or nonprofit sectors. A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in a public relations or creative agency preferred.
