POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Grounds Maintenance Foreman II plans and oversees the work of a large crew in construction, maintenance and repair projects of school grounds.  An employee in this class oversees the work of repair and maintenance of all school grounds. This is supervisory work, which involves assigning and inspecting the work performed by the crews, which consist of Grounds Maintenance Foreman I, Equipment Operators and Laborers, Cement Finishers, etc. A Grounds Maintenance Foreman II, also at the request of the supervisor makes on-site inspections of planned projects to determine needs and then assigns projects to Grounds Maintenance Foreman I. This class differs from the class of Grounds Maintenance Foreman I because the job requires overall responsibility of grounds maintenance of all schools. Work is assigned by and discussed with the Director of Operations.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Studies blueprints, specifications and other planning aids for the construction of playground pads, equipment and related construction;

Supervises the installation of pads, walks, driveways and drainage culverts;

Supervises the performance of tree work and pesticide spraying;

Sees that safety precautions for work crews and the public are enforced;

Oversees the removal of trash from all PGCPS facilities;

Oversees snow and ice removal from all PGCPS facilities, coordinating with other local, county and state agencies;

Oversees emergency and large-scale repair projects;

Requisitions and inspects materials, equipment and supplies;

Supervises equipment operators in excavating and grading;

Keeps time, material and work records and prepares periodic reports;

Confers with other supervisory and skilled employees on technical problems;

Lays out large renovation projects, coordinates various grounds crews and trades to carry job to completion; and

Performs related duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. (See Prince George's County Public School's Bulletin A-26-85 dated October 8, 1984.);

Thorough knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used in construction projects;

Good knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work;

Ability to supervise the work of others;

Skill in use of and ability to instruct others in the use of tools required on grounds maintenance, construction and repair; and

Ability to keep records and make reports; must have knowledge of pesticide applications; and must be in good physical condition.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Graduation from high school or vocational school course work; considerable experience in construction and maintenance activities including supervisory experience at the level of Grounds Maintenance Foreman I; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
