POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the direction of the Master Foreman, the HVAC Mechanic performs skilled work in
the maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning components and
related work as required.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Regulating service to designated areas
as required by closing valves, registers, ducts, etc.;
Rewiring electrical systems and
replacing controls, switches and relays;
Lubricating various parts of machinery
and equipment periodically as required;
Directing and performing maintenance and
repairing on equipment and component parts;
Replacing and adjusting fan belts and
worn bearings;
Maintaining records on equipment;
Oversees the work of Apprentices and
Trades Helpers;
Contributes to the evaluation process of
employees’ including progressive discipline;
Performing electrical repairs; and
Inspecting entire system and area
serviced periodically to determine proper functioning conditions and
maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Working knowledge of the methods,
practices and procedures in the repair and maintenance of heating and
air-conditioning components and related equipment;
Working knowledge of the common hazards and
safety precautions in the trade;
Skill in the use of hand and power tools used
in the trade;
Ability to supervise the work of others;
Knowledge of technology (computer and/or
mobile device) to enter materials, labor hours, status and details of the work
done into the online work order management system;
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s license at the time of appointment; and a driving record indicating five (5) or
fewer current points, which no more than three (3) shall have accumulated as a
result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education
vehicle;
Deemed as essential personnel; and may be required
to work day, night or weekend hours to meet the operational needs of the
department; and
Ability to understand and follow oral and written
instructions.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma, GED or completion of standard vocational
program. Some experience in the trade,
some of which shall have been at the level of Trades Helpers.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
CFC
Universal License is required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises
Trades Helpers and Apprentices.
