POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Health Services Nurse Manager provides professional nursing services, supervision of assigned staff, and follow-up for medically complex students in assigned schools.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Provides guidance to staff regarding students with private duty nurses;

Supervises assigned Health Services staff;

Assists nursing staff in the development of health care plans;

Provides on-site supervision to Certified Medication Technicians;

Coordinates specific student's medical care with other individuals and agencies;

Assists with integration of students with complex medical needs into the educational system;

Serves as a nursing consultant and resource person to school staff, parents, and students;

Plans and implements programs for the management of students with medical needs at the school level;

Provides consultation to educational teams with appropriate medical information and care plans to facilitate students' educational program;

Assesses and screens students for medical and school health services;

Represents Health Services on assigned committees;

Educates and directs school staff regarding medical issues related to students who may require emergency intervention;

Provides in-services to faculty that educate regarding health related issues;

Accompanies families, when necessary, to clinic and physician appointments or may make home visit as indicated;

Assists school staff with development of an individual teaching program for students and families to foster independent health care;

Establishes and maintain on-going communication with school based staff related to health issues;

Provides mentoring for Health Services staff and preceptorship to nursing students modeling professional nursing; and

Performs related work as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Skilled level knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing, administration and supervision;

Ability to handle sensitive situations that require skillful intervention and support for staff, parents and students; through knowledge of nursing procedures; and

Ability to exercise tact, initiative and good judgment; ability to deal effectively with groups.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing; Master's degree in Nursing or related held preferred, with at least (3) years administrative supervisory experience.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Possession of a current Maryland Nursing License, current CPR and First Aid Certification and an appropriate and valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License.


 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Supervises health services staff in schools and centers.
