POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the IT Supervisor, the Information Technology Technician II is responsible for managing the technology infrastructure in assigned schools and administrative buildings. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the technology infrastructure, which includes desktops, laptops, printers, copiers, peripheral devices, operating systems, productivity software, administrative software and educational software. The IT Technician II is responsible for the inventory management of all computer related equipment and maintaining inventory of all wiring closet equipment and school/office based servers.  The incumbent is responsible for tracking, managing and resolving Tier I and Tier II service requests and providing excellent customer service to all school/administrative office staff.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Maintains inventory of all technology in assigned schools and/or offices;

Tracks all service requests in the systemic help desk application; this includes closing tickets and entering solutions into the help desk application;

Images and configures computers;

Performs Tier II level repairs on devices under and out of warranty;

Tracks all lost and damaged equipment;

Assigns and updates equipment assignments in the Asset Management System (AMS);

Provides Tier II technical support for all staff in assigned schools and offices;

Provides end user training on the use of equipment and general (administrative and productivity) software use;

Utilizes remote technologies to support users where applicable;

Assists central IT staff or contractors when installing network equipment, servers and switches in schools and administrative buildings;

Troubleshoots network issues with central IT staff;

Works with IT procurement personnel for technology procurements;

Works with team of IT staff to provide excellent customer support;

Manages student user accounts for schools;

Prepares for annual technology audit from central office;

Participates in mentoring new IT Technicians;

Attends IT Technician II monthly meetings and summer training activities provided by the Division of Information Technology; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Fundamental knowledge of how a network operates;

Fundamental knowledge of how a variety of operating systems function as stand-alone and networked;

Ability to work cooperatively as a team member;

Effective human relations skills and oral and written communications skills;

Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to prepare various reports for upper management;

Ability to follow standard operating procedures;

Excellent customer service skills;

Must be able to work individually and as a part of a team; and

Willingness to work a flexible schedule; may be required to work in several schools and offices.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a technology field required. In lieu of the education requirement, two (2) years of directly related successful work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted. 

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


A-Plus Certification, Microsoft Certified Professional or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer preferred. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:


Driver’s License is required inasmuch as there will be a need to travel to sites throughout the school district.
