POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the
direction of the Instructional Supervisor Curriculum
and Instruction – Library Media Services, the Instructional Assistant is
responsible for the implementation, coordination, and maintenance of the
automation of all school library media centers. Work includes data conversion, training,
maintaining the system of the Follett Destiny online catalog, the Library Media
Google site and any public-facing online pages.
The Instructional Assistant will implement all virtual guidelines in the
Maryland MDK12 Digital Library Consortium memorandum of understanding, as
needed. In addition, they will assist in
managing the Prince George’s County Public School Professional Library.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Prepares data for conversion to the new
system;
Maintains online library catalog and
software access;
Trains on circulation and catalog
software for library media specialists, aides, trainers and specialists and
when appropriate, content supervisors/specialists, teachers and other staff;
Trains on implementation of
automation system for curriculum application;
Troubleshoots any technical problems
and maintains hardware and software;
Maintains the Follett Destiny online
catalog. The catalog will contain all
schools’ collections, the collections from the Professional Library, Curriculum
Library, and Staff Development, as well as the databases of approved library
and classroom instructional materials;
Maintains the Office of Library
Media Services Google site and any public-facing online pages, which contain
instructional resource links for library media specialists, teachers, students,
and parents;
Maintains the mini-lab in the
Professional Library for training and support;
Facilitates MDK12 Digital Library
approved resources and other databases and attends related meetings, as
necessary;
Trains on Library related
technologies; and
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Considerable knowledge of library
media services and systems;
Must possess strong computer skills,
including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
Ability to prepare and complete data
conversion;
Knowledge of circulation, catalog
software, implementation of automation system, and library related
technologies;
Ability to effectively facilitate
training to various staff, as required;
Experience coordinating with
technology services personnel;
Ability to troubleshoot technical
problems; and
Excellent oral and written
communication skills and human interaction.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s Degree from an accredited
college or university in Library Media Services/Instructional Technology
required, with a minimum of three (3) years of successful virtual library media
experience.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced Professional Certificate as
a Library Media Specialist
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
