POSITION SUMMARY:
The
Instructional Assistant is responsible for assisting the Instructional Resource
Specialist in monitoring, developing and managing the Home Schooling Office to
ensure compliance with COMAR.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Provides training and
support to Portfolio Reviewers to monitor that home schooled students
receive regular and thorough instruction
during the school year;
Provides assistance with implementation of state and local requirements
including data collection and responses to Maryland Department of Education;
Provides training to
school records staff and registrars to ensure that local procedures for
withdrawal and enrollment of home schooled students are implemented with
integrity;
Provides assistance as deemed appropriate by the Supervisor in
the completion of portfolio reviews;
Develops training modules and conducts orientation workshops and
supplemental support trainings for parents of home schooled students;
Assists in the supervision office staff including hourly paid portfolio reviewers;
Assists in the development and implementation of guidelines and
procedures for home schooling;
Assists in the preparation of state reports pertaining to the
home school office;
Assists in the maintenance of accurate data of the number of
students under the supervision of PGCPS Home Schooling Office and umbrella
programs;
Attends county and state meetings on home schooling; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of the school system’s curriculum;
Knowledge of Home Schooling curriculum and state approved
programs;
Experience in working in an educational setting;
Evidence of training in professional development;
Ability to access curricular resources and explain them to
parents;
Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office
Suite (Excel, Power-Point, Word, Outlook, Google Docs and Google Applications;
ability to use Google Hangout and other online meeting tools; Excellent written
and oral communications skills; and
Effective human relations
and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s
Degree from an accredited college or university and or any equivalent
combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge,
skills and abilities necessary to perform effectively in this position.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Administration I Certificate required; Advanced Professional
Certificate.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist
supervisor with program oversight and staff supervision.
