POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
direct supervision, Instructional
Coaches will facilitate change in instructional practices of teachers that will
enable teachers to diagnose student needs more analytically; plan more
productively; and teach more effectively.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Assist
in developing student K – 12 science and STEM instructional programs and
curriculum;
Facilitates teacher study groups for analyzing
student work, interpreting data and planning appropriate instruction;
Models effective teaching practices and
instructional strategies in classrooms;
Provides feedback to teachers on their
implementation of appropriate standards-based instructional strategies and
teaching practices for improving program quality;
Provides teachers with training and practice in
developing and managing a system of performance assessment for use in measuring
and improving student achievement over time;
Guides teachers in planning and participating in
professional development experiences relevant to attaining school and district
student performance goals, in collaboration with appropriate district
personnel;
Facilitates collaboration with district personnel,
parents, the community, and higher education as appropriate to student learning
and professional development needs;
Demonstrates appropriate use of tools, especially
instructional technology, to enhance and extend instruction;
Assists
the Supervisor with identifying items that can be procured for materials of
instruction and assists with maintaining instructional platforms including
PGCPS K – 12 Science and Google sites; and
Other duties related to the improvement of student
achievement as determined by the principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough
knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), PGCPS elementary
science curriculum, science pedagogy and current best practices;
Demonstrated
competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for a variety
of audiences;
Knowledge
of state standards and assessment in science;
Working knowledge of student performance data and
classroom assessment practices at they relate to improving instruction and
achieving high learning standards;
Exceptional interpersonal and team building skills,
including the ability to network closely with other instructional coaches,
district colleagues, and community partners;
Ability to provide professional development support to teachers;
and
Strong organizational and strategic planning skills; and outstanding oral, written, and technology
skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s
Degree required; minimum of three years
teaching experience with demonstrated success in teaching higher-level skills
in science. Successful experience as a
facilitator of school based activities focused on educational change and
improvement.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds
or is eligible for a Maryland Standard Professional Certificate in science.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
