POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Instructional Lead Teacher (ILT) will teach in a specified content area. With an additional planning period, the ILT will also lead and/or assist the instructional staff in the design of a high quality instructional program that compliments and supports the curriculum. The incumbent will actively participate as a member of the instructional learning teams and support curriculum, curriculum initiatives, instruction and assessments. This position will require leadership in collaborative planning, curricular decision-making and student problem solving.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Provide program orientation and support for newly hired teachers;

Lead collaborative planning based on student assessment data;

Lead the development and implementation of common and formative assessments in core content areas;

Report and consult regularly with school's principal;

Communicate orally and in written text;

Model best practices for classroom teachers as required;

Providing demonstration lessons and coaching for content teachers in specified content area;

Assist with curriculum mapping for academic subject areas; and

Conduct non-evaluative observations and provide feedback to teachers.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Strong teaching background with a specialty in a content area;

Strong evidence of high student achievement;

Experience in data analysis;

Experience in collaborative planning;

Experience working with diverse populations;

Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of instruction in field of specialization;

Excellent knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process;

Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education;

Experience with and use of technology;

Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff; and

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) in applicable field of education and a minimum of five (5) years teaching experience.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Holds or is eligible for Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education, Advanced Professional Certificate preferred.


 

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.
