POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor – Mathematics 9-12, the Instructional Specialist - High School Mathematics, 9-12, is responsible for assisting with the planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring of curriculum, assessments, professional development and budget of the High School Mathematics Program.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Assists with the coordination of all facets of curriculum and program evaluation for the High School Math program;

Coordinates the development and revisions of curriculum and assessments as needed to reflect the Common Core State Standards for High School Mathematics;

Supports all facets of the High School Mathematics program by providing ongoing staff training, and developing programs of study to upgrade the skills and knowledge base of the High School Mathematics teaching staff;

Assists with the review, approval, acquisition, and distribution of appropriate equipment, materials and print and non-print resources to support staff and students for High School Mathematics program planning, development, and implementation, including Special Education and English Language Learners;

Guide High School Mathematics Teacher Coordinators to interpret and implement district and state instructional initiatives;

Serves as an instructional resource in Mathematics for grades 9-12 administrators, counselors, teachers and parents for district iniatives and programs;

Collaborates with the elementary and middle school Mathematics specialists to ensure K-12 curriculum alignment;

Collects, analyzes, and reports school, district, and state data in order to support sound decisions for student achievement;

Conducts formal and informal observations utilizing Framework for Teaching (FfT); and   

Other duties as required by the Supervisor of Mathematics, 9-12, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and/or the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Minimum five (5) years successful instructional experience in Secondary Math;

Experience in a Mathematics leadership role (preferred);

Sound knowledge, skill and understanding related to the major content area assigned;

Demonstrated administrative, public speaking and human relations skills;

Demonstrated expertise in writing (required) and administering grants (preferred);

Knowledge of current research and trends in the field of Mathematics;

Extensive expertise in writing curriculum framework guides;

Demonstrated competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for teachers and/or principals and parents;

Thorough knowledge of Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards, Common Core State Standards, assessments, and alternative assessments for Mathematics grades 9-12;

Experience in personnel and program evaluation;

Extensive expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of professional development programs and initiatives; and

Excellent written and oral communication and technology skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics or Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction; and three to five years’ experience, at a minimum, as a Master Teacher in Content Area.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Advanced Professional Certificate; Administrator I certification; and Certification in Secondary Mathematics Education (grades 6-12) required.


 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.
