POSITION SUMMARY:


The Instructional Specialist - Immersion is responsible for assisting Immersion Schools providing direct support to all classroom Immersion Teachers and Coordinators with the appropriate methodology, best practices, strategies and content infusion for Immersion Programs. The position is assigned to the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, working directly under the Instructional Supervisor - Immersion.  The primary focus of this position is to provide resource assistance to all immersion programs.  

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Observing and assisting Immersion  teachers with classroom instruction, organization and management;

Providing appropriate Immersion strategies to new and tenured teachers of Immersion programs;

Planning and implementing on-going staff development based on assessed needs of Foreign Language and Immersion teachers;

Helping to  monitor all Immersion programs in Elementary, Middle and High Schools;

Creating, developing, and assisting with Immersion and Foreign Language curriculum documents;

Assisting in the enrollment study and other analyses of Immersion data;

Planning and conducting in-service programs for teachers focusing on effective instructional Immersion strategies;

Assisting in the preparation of grants;

Assisting in the preparation of budgets and purchase orders;

Engaging in collaborative planning with other disciplines in support of MSA and HAS;

Compiling information for yearly "Approval List of Immersion Classroom Instructional Materials Catalog;

Providing demonstration lessons for teachers;

Attending meetings and performing other duties as requested by the Instructional Supervisor, Coordinating Supervisor  and/or the Director.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Effective oral and written communication skills;

Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching techniques and strategies;

Demonstrated expertise in Immersion programs relevant to Foreign Language;

 Experience in the design and/or implementation of immersion programs and innovative techniques in Foreign Language and/or related fields;

Evidence of good human relations and social skills; and

Teaching experience in Foreign Languages.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Master's Degree or equivalent required from an accredited educational institution; minimum of Five (5) years of successful teaching.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Advanced Professional Certificate in Modern Language; Administration I Certificate required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.
