POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Library Media Instructional Specialist is responsible for assuring that the instructional program defined by the Prince George's County Public Schools is implemented effectively and appropriately in his/her assigned schools.  In addition, the Instructional Specialist are monitoring the implementation of the instructional program in each of their schools, working collaboratively with the Library Media Supervisor, Instructional Technology Specialists, other content area Instructional Specialists, and school-based Library Media Specialists.  This position will also be responsible for taking leadership roles in county-wide technology integrated initiatives.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Assists administrators and teachers in facilitating the development, monitoring, implementation, and assessment of the library program and county-wide technology integrated initiatives;

Plans, conducts, and provides follow-up for staff development activities focused on development, implementation, management, and monitoring of the library program and county-wide technology integrated initiatives;

Assists schools with the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment;

Assists schools with the analysis of the master schedule to determine if time is being used efficiently;

Conducts demonstration lessons;

Monitors the use of resources, including the expenditure of funds, use of non-classroom instructional personnel, and use of student learning time, etc.;

Develops related materials for parent use and plans and conducts parent education meetings;

Conducts staff development meetings on topics such as alignment of curriculum, assessment, and instruction for the writing process, strategic and analytical reading, integrated curriculum models, and content specific workshops related to data-based area;

Assists Supervisor in identifying program strengths, needs, and recommended strategies for the principals, library media specialist, and other appropriate employees;

Assists Supervisor in evaluating and purchasing instructional materials, print and nonprint library materials, software, and media in all formats;

Develops and revises curriculum guides aligned to the Maryland State Department of Education State Library Media Curriculum and Common Core;

Collaborates with other departments and assists in county-wide planning and preparation of curriculum and instructional materials for all schools (PreK-12);

Assists in developing and conducting county-wide in-service education programs for school staffs, area office personnel, school library media specialists, and community groups;

Assists school library media specialists and school staff in assessing current status and needs of the library program;

Assists in the implementation of all county-wide library media technology integration initiatives;

Represents the Library Media Supervisor in meetings and conferences;

Participates in systemic committees as needed;

Participates in professional growth workshops, seminars, and conferences;

Supports other Office of Library Media initiatives as needed; and

Performs other related duties as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Thorough knowledge of the school system's curriculum, including its Scope and Sequence documents;

Thorough knowledge of the ten step school improvement planning process;

Knowledge of school schedules which maximize the use of instructional time;

Ability to analyze student performance and participation data for instructional implication;

Expert-level experience or certification in instructional technology integration, computers, and typing skills;

Strong familiarity with Microsoft and Macintosh software programs used in PGCPS;

Computer literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Word;

Excellent oral and communication skills; and

Effective human relations and interpersonal skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and five (5) years successful teaching experience.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Advanced Professional Certificate; Administration I Certificate required.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
