POSITION SUMMARY:
The scope of duties for the Parent
& Family Engagement Specialist, under the direct supervision of Title I
Coordinating Supervisor, includes the development and implementation of the
parent and family engagement programs and activities in compliance with the
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Design and implement a comprehensive parent and family
engagement plan for ESSA & Title I;Assist with the annual review of the Title I identified school
sites parent & family plans which includes input from school personnel,
parents, and community stakeholders;
Oversee and support in scheduling of the Mobile Activity Center
van;
Coordinate interpreter/translation service requests with ESOL
Department;
Maintain records of interpreter and translation requests;
Assist with assessment, training and in-services of Parent
Engagement Assistants;
Plan, develop, and conduct school-based and Title I district-wide
parent and family workshops to inform parents and families about evidence-based
practices, as well as conducting professional development for leadership teams,
and school staff to enhance parental and family engagement;
Assist schools in establishing parent and family teams that will
provide input in developing the parent/family plan and School-Parent Compact,
serving as representatives on the School Planning Management Team, and
communicating with parents and families in the school;
Assist School Planning and Management Teams in developing,
putting into action, and assessing the parent and family engagement component
of the Title I Plan, and provide strategies on how to include parents and
families in the process;
Coordinate and integrate parent and family engagement programs
and activities with other programs such as Head Start, Early Childhood Centers,
Student Services, Family & Community Engagement, and Parent Resource Centers;
Coordinating the effective utilization of Title I supplemental
resources designated for parent and family engagement activities in order to
enhance the planning and implementation of all curricular, instructional, and
assessment best-practices;
Create and analyze
parent surveys for program planning and evaluation; and
Perform related other work as
required.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Five (5) years of experience working with diverse populations;Three (3) years of administrator or team leader experience;
Knowledge of ESSA requirements of parent and family engagement;
Experience working with state, county and/or federal agencies,
and private sector;
Keeps abreast of latest research, best practices, developments
and techniques in parent and family engagement;
Thorough knowledge of Prince George’s County Public Schools
(PGCPS) organization and K-12 curriculum, program of studies, policies, and
federal and state testing practices related to instruction and the Maryland
College and Career-Ready State Standards;
Experience in determining program evaluation criteria and
implementing ongoing program evaluation;
Ability to analyze student performance and participation data to
assist with completing a comprehensive needs assessment and identify root
causes;
Effective planning and organization skills, as well as the
ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate training and
assessment sessions, including evenings and weekends;
Demonstrated leadership
and administrative competency and experience of leading teams;
Excellent teambuilding skills;
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills;
Experience working with computers and other technology; and
Excellent organization ability and effective human relation
skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master's Degree from an accredited institution in education, education policy, administration, or a related field.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced Professional Certificate; Administration I Certificate required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
