POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Supervisor of
Talented and Gifted Programs, the Instructional Specialist for Junior
Achievement (JA) Finance Park® will
oversee the instructional program for JA Finance Park® of Prince George’s County, which is a partnership with JA of
Greater Washington. JA Finance Park® of Prince George’s County is the
second dedicated facility for immersive personal financial education in the
Greater Washington area. The facility will
operate a daily, digital ‘real-life’ simulation, serving the Prince George’s
County Public Schools 8th grade population, nearly 9,000 students
each year, as well as over 1,000 11th graders annually. This position will oversee the execution and
expansion of JA programs in the territory of Junior Achievement of Greater
Washington in accordance with the organization’s long-term strategic vision. Ensures the organization’s student outreach
goals for Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS). Oversees all trainings
and implementation of the curriculum, coordinates the scheduling of the
schools, and provides applicable reports as required.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Serves as the liaison between Prince George’s
County Public Schools and Junior Achievement on all aspects pertaining to
implementation and operation of JA Finance Park® of Prince George’s County;
Implements and coordinates the Grade 8
financial literacy program in the district by working with JA Finance Park® Education Director, district leaders,
and middle school math and social studies teachers;
Coordinates and develops schedules
for school visits and other meetings and workshops to JA Finance Park® during the school year, summer, and other dates as necessary; works directly with
PGCPS Transportation Department or outside vendors to arrange the buses for the
school visits to Finance Park®;
Develops trainings and workshops in
collaboration with JA of Greater Washington,
Collaborates with JA Finance Park® Education Director to create and
deliver financial literacy services and resources that impact student success
and community awareness;
Collects data and provide reports required by
district leaders;
Provides instructional support to the building
principal around financial literacy;
Provides direct support to math and social
studies 8th grade teachers through coaching and collaborative
planning;
Coordinates approved and authorized curriculum
and instructional initiatives as required;
Aligns work and discussions to goals and
objectives that are aligned to Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards
(MCCRS);
Coordinates the distribution of JA Finance Park® curriculum and resource materials to
students, teachers, and parent volunteers;
Works collaboratively with the Education
Director of JA Finance Park® to
ensure the effective implementation of the JA Finance Park® experience for all 8th grade students, teachers, and
parent volunteers;
Troubleshoots problems and issues that may
occur with scheduling, transportation, or the implementation of the program; facilitates
and/or manages the communication between the JA Finance Park® Education Director and other PGCPS
offices or departments for issues or concerns pertaining to the operation of
the JA Finance Park® facility;
Works collaboratively with the Education
Director of JA Finance Park® to
facilitate the opening and other special events of the finance park for
district and community leaders, school-based administrators, teachers, parents,
and students;
Uses effective positive interpersonal
communication skills in order to keep district leaders, school-based
administrators, teachers, parents, and students informed on all aspects of JA
Finance Park®; and
Performs other tasks or services consistent
with the duties defined in the position summary, along with other duties or
responsibilities as assigned by the Instructional Supervisor - Talented and
Gifted.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge of the JA
Finance Park® curriculum and
simulations, facility, and day-to-day operations;
Experience designing
curriculum, planning and conducting training, and organizing resources;
Ability to work
collaboratively with principals, teachers, parents, and others in PGCPS and in
the community;
Ability to work with
schools, transportation, and other offices to schedule visits and trouble-shoot
as necessary;
Ability to work
collaboratively with instructional supervisors of math and social studies to
identify curriculum, instructional practices, and resources;
Ability to use
technology in curriculum to support and extend instruction and to facilitate
communication;
Ability to build
positive and productive relationships with parents and community groups to
collect feedback and improve programs and instruction;
Ability to draft, edit,
and compile reports for system-wide use;
Ability to effectively
analyze, monitor, and report the implications of data and develop next steps;
Possess effective organizational
and programmatic problem solving skills;
Computer literacy
including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SchoolMax system;
ability to use computer programs (e.g., word processing, databases);
Demonstrates effective
human relations and interpersonal skills; and
Excellent oral and
written communication skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree in education from an accredited
college or university with specialization and course work in curriculum or
administration required. At least five (5) years of teaching experience
preferred.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced Professional
Certificate; Administrator I Certification required. Certified in Secondary Mathematics or Social
Studies, preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
