POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction
of the Instructional Supervisor - Media Arts, the Instructional Specialist – Media
Arts will be responsible for providing support to all teachers in the area of Media
Arts, TV Production, and Technology Integration curriculum, instruction, and
classroom management for Prince George’s County Public Schools. The Instructional Specialist will work on the development,
coordination and implementation of all countywide media arts, TV production and
technology integration programs. The responsibilities of this position include
collaboration for program planning and design, cross-curricular collaboration
and development of best practices, budget development, and workshops for
teachers and administration, development of curriculum and enrichment programs,
coordination of field trips, and enrichment opportunities for teachers and
students that support instruction. The Instructional Specialist will assist in
ensuring the programs are in compliance with federal, state and local mandates.
In addition, the Instructional Specialist will maintain high standards for
students, staff and parent satisfaction within Prince George’s County Public
Schools.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Providing
direct support to all teachers in the area of media arts, TV production, and
technology integration curriculum, instruction, and classroom management;
Providing
system level support in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Arts
Integration using current and emerging educational technologies;
Assisting
the Instructional Supervisor in both short and long-range planning for the
improvement of the instructional programs;
Assisting
the Instructional Supervisor in the development and implementation of a professional
development program for teachers of media arts, TV production, and technology
integration including the designing and teaching of state approved workshops,
summer institutes, and after school programs;
Assisting
the Instructional Supervisor in the preparation of curriculum documents,
correlation of instructional materials, and units of study;
Assisting
the Instructional Supervisor in the selection of instructional materials
correlated to state and national standards;
Providing
regional and school-level workshops on curricular issues and teaching
strategies, in collaboration with the Office of Professional Learning and
Leadership;
Assisting
the Instructional Supervisor with leading the Regional Contact Persons in
assisting teachers directly with aligning classroom strategies and
instructional best practices;
Assisting
the Instructional Supervisor in developing the application for grants;
Assisting
the Instructional Supervisor with the planning and implementation of special
events in Media Arts, TV Production, and Technology Integration education;
Assisting
the Instructional Supervisor with the monitoring and implementation of the
instructional program district wide; and
Overseeing
projects as designated by the Instructional Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Full
knowledge of best practices in Media Arts, TV Production and Technology
Integration Education;
Demonstrated
competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for teachers,
principals, and parents;
Knowledge
of Common Core, state and national standards, benchmarks, and alternative modes
of assessment;
Experience
in writing curriculum and assessments desired;
Experience
in writing and managing grants and budgets desired;
Thorough
knowledge of instructional pedagogy required; and
Demonstrated
skill in effective human relations and in oral and written communications.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced Professional Certificate; Administration I Certificate
required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds
or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate required; holds or is
eligible for Administrator I certification required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
