POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Principal, the Instructional Specialist – Middle College will oversee instructional programs and provide educational leadership for the faculty, staff and students. The Instructional Specialist - Middle College will collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents, students and community partners to ensure that all students are successful and develop skills to help them succeed.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Provides leadership in the planning, monitoring and use of effective best practices in increasing student college graduation rates;

Maintains communication and collaboration with college and MOU partners;

Coordinates pathway planning and student scheduling with college partners;

Works with PGCPS and college partners to develop a tracking system to document the number of students served (graduation, college acceptance, scholarships, employment), and conducts pathway evaluations to determine the success of the program;

Engages families and the community in meaningful, reciprocal and mutually beneficial ways to promote each student’s academic success;

Fosters a professional community of teachers and other professional staff to promote each student’s academic success and well-being;

Works with the Principal and stakeholders to design and run high-quality professional development sessions for faculty and staff;

Works with the Principal and stakeholders to regularly analyze school-wide data, plan interventions and make curricular adjustments;

Works with the Principal and stakeholders to share and implement the vision of the instructional program;

Conducts formal and informal observations and provides targeted and actionable feedback to faculty and staff;

Oversees the organizing, managing and implementing of all standardized testing within the building, including training of staff, maintaining accurate and complete records, coordinating distribution and collection of secure test materials, administering tests in accordance; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, student support principles, curriculum, teaching and learning, research, materials of instruction, and current trends in instruction and supervision;

Proven track record of meeting extremely high standards for student achievement;

Successful experience providing professional development to faculty and staff;

Strong instructional and classroom management skills;

Ability to analyze student performance and participation data for instructional implication;

Ability to utilize technology; including proficiency with School Max, Google Suite, Canvas, etc.;

Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as effective human relations and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, school partners, and other school system staff; and

Ability to keep abreast of new guidelines, emerging trends and best practices related to early/middle college programs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration and secondary school curriculum required. A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience required. Three (3) years administrative/supervisory experience preferred.



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Maryland Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Evaluates and supervises school staff and operations in the absence of the Principal.
