POSITION SUMMARY:
The
Instructional Specialist - Non-Traditional Programs is responsible for the
development, coordination and implementation of the instructional program. The responsibilities of this position include
collaborations with school and administrative personnel for program planning
and design, budget development, recruitment and retention of staff, staffing
assignments, observations and professional development. The Instructional Specialist will maintain
high standards for students, staff and parent satisfaction within Prince
George's County Public Schools.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Promotes
student learning and achievement while integrating district and state
benchmarks into the various non-traditional education programs;
Involves
appropriate staff in the evaluation and selection of innovative instructional
materials to meet differentiated student-learning needs;
Observes
teachers both formally and informally and makes appropriate recommendations for
improvement when needed;
Assists
in writing and editing materials including forms, newsletters, and parent
information;
Works
with the Coordinating Supervisor, department chairs and educators to develop,
monitor and implement effective instructional strategies to support students’
attainment of graduation requirements;
Supports
the placement and scheduling of students enrolled in the non-traditional
programs;
Develops
and implements an information system that establishes a positive relationship
with the general public, business community and district personnel;
Assists
in the supervision of personnel and programs; and
Performs
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Good
knowledge and understanding of alternative education philosophy to ensure public
acceptance and support;
Through
knowledge of federally mandated laws and standards associated with the
alternative education;
Ability
to work independently and to exercise initiatives in carrying out duties and
responsibilities;
Demonstrated
leadership and administrative competency;
Ability
to analyze student performance and participation data for instructional
implication;
Computer
literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Word;
Excellent
oral and communication skills; and
Effective
human relations and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master's Degree in an applicable field of education from a
regionally accredited college or university required. A minimum of three (3) years of successful
teaching experience required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced Professional Certificate; Administrative I Certificate
required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists
in the evaluation and supervision of school staff.
