POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent for
High Schools, the Instructional Specialist – Online/Virtual Learning is
responsible for ensuring that the instructional program defined by Prince
George’s County Public Schools is implemented effectively and appropriately in the
incumbent’s assigned schools. The incumbent of this position is responsible for
providing direct assistance to the Coordinating Supervisor of the Online Campus
and the Associate Superintendent for those responsibilities that affect the
implementation of a school’s instructional program. The Instructional
Specialist – Online/Virtual Learning will conduct classroom observations,
monitor the implementation of virtual/online instructional programs in
each of the schools in the community, work collaboratively with the
Coordinating Supervisor of the Online Campus and the Associate Superintendent supporting
teachers with successful synchronous and asynchronous instruction of students in a virtual learning environment.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Provides professional development
for teachers and staff in the online environment;
Analyzes data and provides reports
to the Coordinating Supervisor of the Online School, Evening Virtual Program
(EVP), Evening Online Program (EOP), Academic Validation Program (AVP) and
Summer School;
Conducts classroom observations,
holds review conferences and provides follow-up activities for non-tenured
teachers;
Assists schools with the
interpretation of Board of Education policies, procedures and guidelines as
they relate to instructional issues in schools;
Provides assistance to the Coordinating
Supervisor of the Online Campus and the Associate Superintendent for High
Schools by responding to questions and concerns from parents/guardians, and
works with school-based staff to help resolve conflicts;
Works collaboratively with the
Coordinating Supervisor of the Online Campus and the Associate Superintendent
for High Schools supporting teachers with successful synchronous
and asynchronous instruction of students in a virtual learning environment;
Conducts demonstration lessons;
Provides assistance to schools in
the implementation of the School Improvement Process;
Assists the Coordinating
Supervisor of the Online Campus and the Associate Superintendent with
implementation, articulation and community planning meetings;
Monitors the implementation of
virtual/online instructional programs in each of the schools in the community;
and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Considerable knowledge of
effective instructional approaches and strategies;
Extensive
knowledge of digital learning platforms and tools, preferably Edgenuity and/or
Canvas;
Knowledge
of learner-centered instructional strategies and current practices that leverage
technology for learner collaboration, discipline-specific technologies, tools,
and resources;
Knowledge of innovative and creative teaching
with demonstrated ability to conceptualize ideas; lead and evaluate large
projects;
Possess excellent writing, computer and
technology skills necessary for producing comprehensive reports and making
presentations;
Thorough understanding of
instructional programs in Prince George’s County Public Schools; and
Excellent interpersonal and human
relations skills, built on collaboration and effective oral and written
communication.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
required. A minimum of five (5) years of successful
teaching experience required; some of which will have been in a leadership
capacity.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced Professional Certificate; Administrator I endorsement
required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
