POSITION SUMMARY:


  The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Supervisor has the overall responsibility to assist in the planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating of K-12 ESOL programs in the District.  The Instructional Supervisor assists the Coordinating Supervisor in developing an operational framework for the unit, developing a budget based on an analysis of needs, and implementing the process and procedures for evaluating programs and personnel in unit.     

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Develops school-based instructional programs for Grades K-12 ESOL students;

Evaluates the design and delivery of research-based instructional practices for ESOL students at all levels;

Conducts assessment, data collection, and analysis of formal and informal data for use in targeting and monitoring the effectiveness of elementary and/or secondary ESOL programs;

Evaluates and purchases instructional materials, textbooks, software and media;

Supervises the preparation of curriculum guides and modified content material for all grade levels;

Provides professional development for teachers of English language learners and other professional personnel;

Conducts formal observations of teachers using Framework For Teaching (FFT), IFL Look Fors, and other ESOL tools;

Makes presentations within and outside the school system;

Maintains statistical data on all ESOL students and analyzes ELP and grade level test data to inform project decisions;

Coordinates requests from schools for assistance in working with ESOL students;

Collaborates with other departments to provide necessary services to international students;

Oversees English language proficiency testing;

Develops and monitors progress for PMAPP and Master Plan/AMAO accountability; and

Leads ESOL central office team and conducts evaluations.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Ability to monitor the implementation of the ESOL curriculum and collect feedback to support the continuous improvement of ESOL instructional guides and ESOL instruction in schools;

Knowledge of current research and trends in English language learner education with special emphasis on curriculum, instruction, and assessment;

Knowledge of multicultural teaching approaches and materials;

Ability to work collaboratively to develop curricular documents and assessments for ELLs;

Ability to work effectively with classroom teachers, instructional specialists, and professional organizations in providing rigorous academic experiences for elementary and/or secondary ELLs students;

Minimum of 5 years of administrative experience;

Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience English language learners including teaching across disciplines and with diverse populations;

Experience in elementary and/or secondary ESOL program in general educational settings required;

Knowledge of current research, theory and best practices in curriculum development, assessment, and instruction for English language learners;

Experience developing elementary and/or secondary ESOL curriculum and assessments aligned with local and common state core standards;

Demonstrated expertise in the range of issues and programs relevant to the advancement of English language learners;

Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals preferred;

Certified in Framework for Teaching observations preferred;

Effective oral and written communication skills; and

Excellent human relations skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Master's degree or equiv. from accredited college or university; emphasis in ESOL instruction and course work in curriculum development preferred.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Holds or is eligible an Advanced Professional Certificate in K-12 ESOL required; Administrator I Certificate required.


 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Assist in overseeing and providing guidance to the unit staff.
