POSITION SUMMARY:
The Instructional Supervisor - Immersion is responsible for providing
support for assisting secondary and
elementary school teachers with appropriate methodology, current teaching
strategies, and content infusion. The position is assigned to the Department of
Curriculum and Instruction, working directly under the Director of Curriculum
and Instruction. The primary focus of
this position is to provide instructional support and guidance resource
assistance to the school system with the implementation of Immersion programs.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Supervises the implementation
and expansion of Immersion programs;
Provide both short
and long-range planning for the expansion of Immersion programs;
Works with foreign
entities, sister schools, and state and international governments as well as
College and University partners to enhance opportunities for students and staff
of the Immersion programs;
Manage budget,
purchase orders and resource allocations related to Immersion programs;
Supervises and
coordinates the development and implementation of an on-going instructional and
professional development program based on assessed needs of Immersion teachers;
Supervises the procurement,
distribution and monitoring of instructional resources and services correlated
to the Immersion program;
May observe and monitor
World Languages Immersion classroom instruction and management, including
providing FFT Observations;
Provide appropriate
strategies to new and tenured teachers of Immersion programs;
Monitor all Immersion
programs in Elementary, Middle and High Schools;
Evaluates and
monitors the preparation of curriculum documents, correlation of instructional
materials documents, and units of study;
Assist with
enrollment study and other analyses of Immersion data;
Engaging in
collaborative planning with other disciplines in support of PARCC and HSA;
Providing opportunities
for demonstration lessons for Immersion teachers; and
Attending meetings
and performing other duties as requested by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Minimum of Five (5) years of successful teaching and/or
supervision in a World Language Immersion program;
Extensive
knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
Excellent
oral, written and interpersonal skills;
Fluent
in one of the immersion languages;
Demonstrates
competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for teachers,
principals, and parents;
Ability
to support recruitment for Immersion programs;
Experience
working with foreign community partners and governments desired;
Experience
in developing curriculum framework;
Demonstrated
ability to coordinate complex operations and activities in multiple settings;
Ability
to work with diverse populations;
Demonstrated expertise in the range of issues and programs
relevant to Immersion and/or related fields;
Experience in the design and/or implementation of innovative
techniques in Immersion and/or related fields;
Demonstrates knowledge of effective teaching techniques and
strategies; and
Evidence of good human relations and social skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction; Bachelor’s
degree with major in World Language.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds
or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate appropriate to area of
assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education; Administrator
I Certification required; Administrator II preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in
overseeing and providing guidance to the unit staff.
