POSITION SUMMARY:
The Instructional Supervisor for the Judy Hoyer Family Learning
Center - Adelphi is responsible for providing leadership, coordination and
compliance oversight for the Judy Hoyer Program.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Assisting the Executive Director with the supervision of
designated Judy Hoyer program staff in alignment with articulated Board of
Education personnel guidelines and procedures;
Assisting the Executive Director with the supervision of the
Judy Hoyer budget and the development of the grant and its budget for the Judy
Hoyer Center;
Providing supervisory support for programming in Judy Hoyer
programs as directed by the Executive Director;
Engaging in collaborative planning with the Early Childhood
Special Education and General Education Offices for the appropriate inclusion
of young children;
Collaborating with the Early Childhood Special Education and
General Education Offices staff on
curriculum development, textbook and software selections, and developmentally
appropriate practices in the Judy Hoyer Program;
Representing the Judy Hoyer Program at meetings and conferences as requested to give and
receive information; serve as panelist, presenter and facilitator at
conferences for principals and school staff;
Maintaining and building partnerships to support the families of
the Judy Hoyer Center in Adelphi;
Liaison with Principals regarding programming, students and
working with families;
Maintaining policies and procedures related to access to the
Judy Hoyer Program;
Oversight of staff training and data collection;
Providing supervisory support
for early childhood grants and initiatives as directed by the Executive
Director;
Engaging in a collaborative and advisory capacity with community
partners and holding regular meetings with the Judy Hoyer Steering Committee;
Participating in the MSDE Judy Center Administrative Briefings;
Writing and disseminating communication documents including newsletters,
brochures, reports, memoranda and evaluations related to Judy Hoyer Program
initiatives and procedures;
Monitoring compliance with all State and Federal mandates
related to the Judy Hoyer Program;
Liaison with the Human Resources department to address staffing
needs;
Development, organization and implementation of professional
development plans;
May observe and evaluate
teachers; and
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Expertise
related to compliance and early childhood federal, state and local policies and
procedures;
Ability
to monitor the implementation of the curriculum and collect feedback to support
the continuous improvement of instructional guides and instruction in schools;
Knowledge
of current research and trends in education with special emphasis on
curriculum, instruction, and assessment;
Knowledge
of multicultural teaching approaches and materials;
Ability
to work effectively with classroom teachers, instructional specialists, and
professional organizations in providing rigorous academic experiences for early
childhood students;
Experience
developing early childhood curriculum and assessments aligned with local and
common state core standards;
Demonstrated
ability to write successful grant proposals preferred;
Effective
oral and written communication skills; and
Excellent
human relations skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s
degree from accredited college or university required; with emphasis in Early Childhood Programs instruction and course
work in curriculum development preferred; Minimum of five (5) years of teaching
or related experience in the field of Early Childhood Education required; and minimum
of 3 years of administrative experience required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced
Professional Certificate in Early Childhood Education or related field; Admin I
required; Certified in Framework for Teaching observations preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist
in overseeing and providing guidance to the unit staff.
