POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the Coordinating Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, the Instructional Supervisor – Mathematics 6-8 coordinates all facets of curriculum and program
evaluation for the Grade levels 6-8 Mathematics programs.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Supervising all facets of program planning and
development and associated budgets (including grants) for the Mathematics
office, including identification of program priorities in the Quality Schools
Program Strategic Plan for Mathematics 6-8, facilitation of major workshops and
meetings, and provision of oversight to monitor operations;
Coordinating all facets of curriculum and program
evaluation for the 6-8 Mathematics programs;
Supporting all facets of personnel management for the 6-8
Mathematics program by providing ongoing input concerning quality of staff
performance, and developing programs of study to upgrade the skills and
knowledge base of the 6-8 Mathematics teaching staff;
Developing and implementing systemic, program-specific,
and school-based programs of staff development in all aspects of the
Mathematics program including training design, delivery, and evaluation;
Providing
leadership in all
phases and facets
of administrative operations
for the 6-8 Mathematics program;
Coordinating the review, approval, acquisition, and
distribution of appropriate equipment, materials and print and non-print
resources to support all facets of Mathematics program planning, development,
and implementation;
Serving as school system spokesperson for parent and
community groups and stakeholders to articulate relevant facets of Mathematics
program operations;
Providing ongoing interaction and articulation within and
across the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, other departments and
divisions, and at the systemic level, emphasizing strategic planning and
problem solving related the state standards; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Demonstrated administrative skills;
sound knowledge, skill
and understanding related
to the major
content area assigned;
Demonstrated
public speaking and human relations skills; demonstrated expertise in writing
and administering grants;
Full
knowledge of current trends in Mathematics education, including constructivist
pedagogy, performance-based assessment, instructional materials and design of
Mathematics facilities;
Demonstrated
competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for teachers,
principals and parents;
Knowledge
of state standards, benchmarks and alternative assessment, 6-8;
Experience
and expertise in personnel and program evaluation;
Extensive
expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of professional
development programs and initiatives;
Excellent
written and oral communication and technology skills; and
Extensive
experience in the area of budget development and fiscal management.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from a
regionally accredited college or university with major work in business
administration, public administration, or accounting required; considerable
experience in progressively responsible administrative work, including
supervisory or public accounting experience; some experience or familiarity
with large scale computerized accounting systems; or any equivalent
combinations of experience and training which provides the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced
Professional Certificate; Certification in Secondary Mathematics Education
(grades 6-8) and Administrator I certification required; Administrator II
certification preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in overseeing and providing guidance
to the unit staff/teachers.
