POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Coordinating Manager, the Instructional Supervisor – Media Arts will be responsible for providing support to all teachers in the area of Media Arts curriculum, instruction and classroom. The incumbent of this position will work on the development, coordination and implementation of all countywide Media Arts programs. The responsibilities of this position include collaboration for program planning and design, cross-curricular collaboration and development of best practices, budget development, and workshops for teachers and administration.  The Instructional Supervisor will oversee the development of curriculum and enrichment programs, coordination of field trips, and enrichment opportunities for teachers and students that support instruction. The incumbent of this position will assist in ensuring the programs are in compliance with federal, state and local mandates. In addition, the Instructional Supervisor will maintain high standards for students, staff and parent satisfaction within Prince George’s County Public Schools.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Provides leadership and support to instructional personnel and schools to ensure compliance with laws, policies, and COMAR regulations pertaining to departmental and systemic goals;

Provides leadership to schools in the implementation of research-based and high impact practices that promote student achievement;

Works with instructional personnel in the process and practices that produce high levels of student achievement; modeling best practices in leadership and instruction; 

Designs and implements internal evaluation processes for the purpose of continuously identifying and incorporating improvement goals into the department’s operational plans;

Recommends comprehensive media arts materials of instruction;

Supports the schools’ development of a comprehensive media arts instructional program;

Coordinates and provides workshops and cross-curricular professional development to ensure leadership and teachers have the knowledge, skills and expertise to meet the diverse needs of all students;

Assists in the planning, designing, and coordination of professional development and training for school-based staff on effective instructional strategies, data analysis, county and state assessments, current media arts research and trend data, education reform efforts, and curriculum resources;

Works closely with instructional specialists, content coaches, and technology specialists to design professional learning modules;

Maintains strict fiscal accountability through the review of financial documents and procurement requests for Media Arts operations and for requests submitted by schools utilizing related grant funding; 

Devises administrative and record keeping systems that satisfy federal, state, and county requirements; participating in program audits by furnishing requested data and participating in interview sessions;

Assists in the writing, reviewing and dissemination of communication documents including newsletters, brochures, compliance reports, internal and external memorandum, surveys, profiles, evaluations, and concept papers;

Prepares reports required by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and responds to informational requests by other system offices and outside organizations; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Knowledge of media arts instructional programs in PGCPS, neighboring districts, and nationwide;

Knowledge of state and national standards, including National Core Arts Standards, and International Society for Technology in Education Standards;

Familiar with digital creativity and utility tools, Universal Design for Learning, culturally responsive pedagogy, and current trends in media arts education including pedagogy and technological advances;

Experience in writing curriculum, determining program evaluation criteria and implementing ongoing program evaluation;

Experience and knowledge of cross-curricular instruction;

Knowledge of instructional techniques, management skills and strategies for modifying curriculum for all learners;

Thorough knowledge of Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) organization, federal and state laws related to media arts instruction and arts integration, and MSDE content standards;

Knowledge of system-wide school improvement planning;

Demonstrates leadership, public speaking and administrative competency;

Effective planning and organization skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;

Effective communication (oral and written) as well as human relations skills;

Experience working with computers and other technology;

Knowledge of elementary, middle and high school curriculum, and working with at-risk student populations; and

Considerable knowledge of budgeting and reporting requirements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in educational leadership/administration, educational technology or a closely related field required.  A minimum of two (2) years of educational leadership experience and five (5) years of successful media arts teaching experience required.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Advanced Professional Certificate withAdministrator I endorsement required. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Oversees and provides guidance and direction to the unit staff.
