POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director
of Student Services, Instructional Supervisor for Pupil Personnel is
responsible for program and services coordination and collaboration. As a member of the Central Office Student
Services Team, the supervisor coordinates and collaborates with other Prince
George’s County Public School offices and departments in order to carry out
required assignments and functions.
Special concentration is focused on systemic needs such as school
attendance, dropout prevention, residency compliance and student discipline
with emphasis on achieving academic success.
The supervisor uses performance data to develop professional development
and appropriate supports for pupil personnel workers. The supervisor works closely with school
administrators, families, local and state agencies and with community
organizations to promote academic achievement for all students. The job involves considerable knowledge of
the school system’s organization, policies, procedures and an ability to
successfully communicate both orally and in writing.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Develops and collects pupil personnel
services data that reflects implementation and application of programs and
services;
Works with all departments of student
services to plan, develop and implement the mission and goals, which are
delineated in the school system’s master plan;
Serves as a resource to staff, parents
and community organizations;
Assists in review and update of local
student service policies, guidelines and procedures as needed;
Maintains collaboration with state and
local agencies;
Serves on various school system
committees/taskforces as assigned;
Compiles and maintains relevant
statistics for performance management;
Serves on Expulsion Review Board as
needed;
Works collaboratively with school system
offices especially: Alternative Programs, Special Education, Court Liaison,
Homeless Education and Safe and Drug Free Schools;
Responds to telephone inquiries and
correspondence related to the function of Pupil Personnel Workers from school
system employees as well as the community;
Keeps abreast of current local, state
and national education trends in the area of school effectiveness and school
reform;
Reviews and updates local student
service policies, guidelines and procedures as needed;
Observes Pupil Personnel Workers and
completes evaluations as appropriate;
Prepares reports required by the
Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and responds to informational
requests by other system offices and outside organizations; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of Prince George’s
County Public School and Maryland State Department of Education policies and
procedures;
Ability to collect and analyze data to
discern systemic trends;
Ability to use data for planning,
monitoring and evaluating Pupil Personnel Service programs;
Exceptional interpersonal skills;
ability to work with staff, parents and community;
Ability to work in a collaborative team
approach environment; and
Excellent oral and written communication
skills and effective human relations skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s
degree from an accredited college or university with graduate courses in
Administration and Supervision, Counseling, Special Education, and/or related
service areas. Five years of successful
experience as a Pupil Personnel Worker.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Maryland
State Department of Education (MSDE) Pupil Personnel Worker certification;
Administrator I and Advanced Professional Certificate.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides guidance and supervision to
assigned personnel.
