POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of the Director of Internal Audit, the Investigative Auditor III will perform reviews and audits of irregularities in areas of concern identified primarily by the whistleblower hotline reports.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Evaluating a variety of confidential issues including conducting investigations of fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, misappropriations, irregularities, allegations, etc.;

Reviewing complaints recorded by the whistleblower hotline;

Performing  internal compliance audits, school operational or financial audits;       

Assisting on special projects as directed by the Director of Internal Audit;

Assisting Human Resources with training program on complaint procedures and the Board's anti-retaliation commitment;

Developing policies and procedures on the whistleblower program for management;

Preparing reports with the results of audits, investigations and reviews;

Assisting management with the planning and conducting of other school system reviews and offering recommendations for improvement;

Assisting in compiling periodic financial and management performance reviews and analysis; and

Assisting in evaluating compliance with Board policies and procedures, audits school accounts, grants, and special projects as needed.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Considerable knowledge of fraud/forensic accounting, auditing principles and practices and their applications to a wide variety of auditing problems;

Ability to analyze and evaluate problems and develop clear, concise, and comprehensive reports of the related data;

Ability to effectively manage and lead investigative, confidential and sensitive inquiries and assignments;

Must possess a strong understanding of risk and evaluation of internal controls;

Must possess strong analytical skills, work ethic,  leadership ability and a high degree of confidence and confidentiality;

Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and school personnel;

Ability to perform administrative functions independently;

Excellent oral and written communication skills; and

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other applications such as Quick Books and Oracle.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, and a minimum of (5) years' experience with at least two (2) years investigative audit experience, particularly fraud within a large organization.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), CIA, CPA, CGAP or other related certification is acceptable.

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Supervises Investigative Auditor II or Internal Auditors II when assigned to assist with an investigation.
