POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Language Access Liaison –
Translation Services serves schools and offices by facilitating translation of
communication documents in target language across multiple systemic and
school-based platforms. The incumbent of
this position serves as part of a language access team for all translation
services, collaborating with other offices and performing translations and
proofing documents. The Language Access
Liaison provides a multi-layered approach to support equitable and culturally
responsive communication and outreach efforts for linguistically diverse
families.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Reads through original material, recreates it
in the target language, and ensures that the meaning of the source text is
retained;
Operates Computer Assisted Translation (CAT)
tools and Translation Memory (TM) software to ensure consistency of translation
within documents and leverage efficiency;
Manages and updates all content in target
language on systemic web pages in coordination with the web services team;
Creates and manages social media posts in
target language and regularly responds to community inquiries to provide
resources and/or liaise with schools as needed;
Incorporates the use of specialist
dictionaries, thesauruses, and research tools throughout the translation
process; manages translation library for systemic and school-based use;
Researches phraseology to find the correct
translation;
Serves as a liaison with school and/or office
requestors to discuss any unclear points in translation projects;
Proofreads and edits translated versions of
documents and publications;
Provides a grammatically correct, well-expressed
final version of the translated text, in the same format in which the project request
was presented;
Facilitates written translations and
publications consistent with state and federal guidelines for written parent
communications;
Records voiceovers and subtitling content for
systemic communications;
Assists with providing verification and
translation of foreign birth certificates as requested by schools;
Provides interpretation services as needed for
select systemic events;
Prioritizes assignments to meet deadlines; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Ability to demonstrate an
understanding of grammar technicalities of English and target language to
include colloquialisms and how to translate them;
Ability to demonstrate translation
proficiency during the interview assessment of back to front translation;
Ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with all staff;
Ability to establish rapport with
employees from diverse cultures and backgrounds;
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite,
Google Docs, calendar coordination, InDesign, CAT and TM tools, workflow
management, and Oracle;
Ability to problem solve;
Ability to effectively communicate
both verbally and in writing in English and target language;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Must be well organized and detail
oriented with the ability to adhere to strict project timelines and deadlines;
Ability to manage multiple tasks; and
Ability to provide outstanding customer
service.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation
from high school required; advanced courses in foreign language and specialized
training in translations preferred.
Previous experience with Computer Assisted Translation
(CAT) tools and publishing software preferred.
A minimum of two (2) years of previous translation experience is required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Certification
by the American Translator’s Association (ATA) preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
