POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
general supervision, performs lead supervisory and skilled work in the maintenance,
repair and extension of electrical wiring and equipment in school buildings.
This
is a lead supervisory work involving the participating in and assigning,
directing and inspecting the efforts of crews composed of Electrician II,
Electrician I, Trades Helpers and Apprentices engaged in skilled work involving
responsibility for the performance of difficult and specialized electrical
maintenance and repair operations. Areas of work and standards to be met are
the overall responsibility of the Electrical Maintenance Foreman II; however,
the incumbent must use independent judgment in assigning, scheduling,
estimating, inspecting and participating in electrical repair. Assignments are
usually received in written form and the work is subject to review for compliance
with instructions and requests. This class differs from Electrician II by the
wider scope of supervisory responsibility and administrative tasks to be
accomplished.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Supervises the work of crews composed of Electricians
II, Electricians I, Trades Helpers and Apprentices engaged in skilled work
involving responsibility for the electrical maintenance and repair or
electrical equipment such as switch panels, receptacles, lights and fuses,
testing, splicing and wiping of wires and cables; wiring buildings and making
additions to existing wiring;
May install and maintain remote control devises
for magnetic motor connections; adjust and maintain utility motors and
appliances; maintain time and work order records; prepare reports as required.
Assigns crews in response to emergency situations resulting from vandalism,
fires, flooding or storms; checks on hazardous conditions and assists in enforcing
safety rules and regulations;
Acts for Electrical Maintenance Foreman II in
his absence; performs or assists in performing the more difficult or skilled
tasks; trains and instructs subordinates; and
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of standard tools, equipment and practices used in the electrical trade;
Knowledge of the hazards and the necessary safety precautions of electrical projects;
Ability to assign work, supervise and carry a job through to completion;
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; and
Must be in good physical condition.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High
school diploma, standard vocational school course(s), GED or recognized
apprenticeship in the trade required. Supervisory experience at the level of
Electrician II, with
considerable experience as a Journeyman Electrician, some of which shall
have been at the level of an Electrician II.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Prince George’s County Journeyman Electrician
License (CB-402000 DR-2) required, Master Electrician License preferred.
Possession
of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with
driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more
than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations
occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead
Supervisory responsibilities over the work of an Electrician II, Electrician I,
Trades Helpers and Apprentices.

While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
