Under general supervision, the Lead Electronics Technician performs lead supervisory and skilled work involving the maintenance, repair and modification of electronics systems.  The incumbent of this position will be responsible for assigning, directing and inspecting the efforts of crews composed of Electronics Technicians and Trades Helpers engaged in specialized electrical work requiring an advanced knowledge of electronics systems.

Supervises the work of Electronics Technicians and Trades Helpers engaged in skilled work involving responsibility for the electrical maintenance and repair for a variety of high-tech electronic components such as computers, televisions, instructional equipment, audiovisual equipment, electronic digital clock systems, public address systems, scoreboards, language lab equipment, and other related equipment;

Assigns crews in response to emergency situations;

Meets with contractors and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project managers to discuss new work;

Schedules and oversees the work of contractors, including written reports and other required documentation, to ensure compliance with PGCPS requirements;

Maintains time and work order records and adjusts work assignments for maximum production;

Estimates new jobs relative to manpower, time and materials required;

Reviews and processes material requisitions and orders materials;

Enforces safety rules and regulations for crews;

Processes leave requests and records on calendar; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

Considerable experience in the installation, repair and maintenance and testing of a variety of high tech equipment, including PA systems, clocks, televisions, smartboards and interactive boards;

Experience troubleshooting and repairing a wide range of electronic equipment;

Ability to detect by inspection defects in equipment or systems and make proper adjustments and repairs;

Ability to plan and supervise the work of others and carry a job through to completion;

Ability to work from written and oral instructions;

Ability to estimate time and materials needed; and

Ability to plan and implement effective work standards.

High school graduate supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship or trade school and at least six (6) years of experience in the electronics field.  Preferred experience in the Electronics Technician I and II positions.

Possession of Prince George’s County Journeyman Electrician License (CB-402000 DR-2) required; Master Electrician License preferred.

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.

Oversees the work of crews composed of Electronics Technicians I and II and Trades Helpers.
