POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Legal Compliance Coordinator
performs highly confidential and complex administrative and project management
functions in support of the day-to-day operations of the Office of General
Counsel. The incumbent of this position provides procedural assistance, case
management and support to other unit staff. The Legal Compliance Coordinator will
assist in the administration and coordination of the work of the Office of
General Counsel, Office of Equity Assurance and Office of Compliance and Ethics.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Assists in developing and
implementing effective internal controls for ongoing monitoring and evaluation
of compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and local
administrative procedures;
Provides leadership in the selection,
implementation, use and maintenance of case management systems; provides
technical support and/or training as needed;
Maintains and tracks assignments; determines
appropriate case categorization, collects data on all cases to include the status
and success rate; analyzes the data collected to revise practices and drive
change/action needed to provide necessary remedies and inform Board bargaining
position;
Assists with the development and
implementation of legal compliance reports; prepares executive summaries,
statistical reports, documents and correspondence;
Assists with the development of
overall performance objectives for the office, the assessment of needs,
establishment of priorities, development of specific performance targets and
strategies and establishment of systems for monitoring progress;
Participates in the collection of case
management data, the assessment and analysis of results, the drawing of valid
conclusions and the identification of resolutions or alternative solutions;
Participates in internal audits to
monitor the system’s compliance in the collection, review and analysis of
statistical data on system and school-level program activities;
Assists with scheduling depositions
and maintains/tracks related status data;
Assists in the development of the
office’s annual budget, monitors the distribution and use of funds allocated to
the office, and reviews external counsel invoices;
Updates and maintains the office’s
web pages as needed;
Maintains the General Counsel’s
calendar;
Serves as the liaison with Human
Resources to draft/update the office’s position descriptions as needed and
determine appropriate recruiting methods/strategies for the office; and
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Demonstrates knowledge of all federal
and state laws and regulations that pertain to K-12 education;
Considerable knowledge of school
system functions and organizations;
Experience in analyzing and
interpreting a variety of data sources; ability to gather, organize, analyze,
and report information and data to individuals/groups of varying sizes;
Demonstrated competence in the
ability to provide timely and accurate information needed to inform executive
decisions;
Experience using Google platforms; demonstrated
proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite
– Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and cloud-based applications;
Ability to deal tactfully and
effectively with school system administrators, staff, parents and the
community;
Ability to quickly analyze problems
and recommend workable solutions including implementation;
Ability to maintain confidentiality
with sensitive information;
Must be collaborative and have an
excellent ability to work in a team environment with experience in working with
people of diverse backgrounds and cultures; working across multiple departments
and units;
Highly self-motivated, self-directed,
and attentive to detail; ability to prioritize and execute tasks under
pressure;

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree or
higher from an accredited college or university in law, legal studies or a closely
related field required. A minimum of 5 (five) years of successful legal office
experience with a strong compliance background required; increasingly
responsible legal office experience preferred.
