POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of
Building Services, the Maintenance Technician coordinates, administers,
evaluates and supervises recycling and environmental programs as an integral
part of the school systems solid waste management function. Develops education
and training materials; makes oral presentations to students and staff schools
and other community groups to provide information regarding recycling programs;
organizes and coordinates recycling activities. Maintain records to ensure
compliance with Federal, State, and Local requirements. Develops bid documents
to establish and manages contracts with vendors.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Develops and implements
specific processes and programs for recycling;
Develops schedules and
manages contracted services;
Makes oral presentations to
the students and staff to provide information;
Develops education and
training materials;
Collect, organize and manage
data;
Requisitions and inspects
materials, equipment and supplies;
Keeps time, material and
work records and prepares periodic reports;
Confers with other school
base administrator supervisory and skilled employees on technical problems;
Develops policies and
procedures related to environmental management; and
Performs related duties as
assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of
methods, materials and techniques used in recycling, contract management,
policy initiation;
Skill in use of and ability
to instruct others in the use of equipment and tools required recycling;
Ability to keep records and
make reports; and
Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws
regarding recycling and other environmental issues in schools.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from high school or any equivalent combination of
experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and
abilities.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an appropriate
and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record
indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3)
shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while
operating a Board of Education vehicle. (See Prince George’s County Public
School’s Bulletin A-26-85 dated October 8, 1984.).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
