POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Facilities
Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for assisting in the
development, implementation and administration of procedures. The incumbent will also assist with the
day-to-day efficient and safe functioning of the school system’s maintenance
complex. The Maintenance Technician will
work with the Facilities Supervisor to develop and manage contracted services
and ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Manages,
plans, schedules, assigns, inspects and supervises the work performed by shop
personnel in maintenance of shop facilities and the surrounding grounds;
Develops procurement documents, schedules and
manages contracted services;
Discusses and resolves system problems, employee
conflicts, and implements progressive disciplinary practices;
Participates in the interviewing of personnel; maintains daily work reports, work schedules
(timekeeper) and personnel records; evaluates employee performance and material
requests;
Maintains facility inventory reports, and inspects
storage areas periodically to ensure the security and orderliness of the
materials and equipment;
Conducts and coordinates safety and related
training programs;
Assists the Facilities Supervisor with
monitoring data relative to work orders using the Global Positioning System
Vehiclemonitoring systems;
Assists with relocation of portable classrooms
and offices;
Coordinates annual performance and operation
checks with equipment manufacturers;
Directs, coordinates and participates in
performing vehicle and equipment inspections and evaluations;
Arranges maintenance schedules for motor
vehicles and repairs of malfunctioning equipment, and notifies Master Foremen
when service checks on equipment and machinery are due;
Confers with supervisory personnel to coordinate
operational activities and material deliveries;
Oversees inventory and maintains records of stock
and equipment; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods,
materials, safety practices and equipment involved in the maintenance and
construction trades;
Good knowledge of associated trades;
Ability to inspect work, determine manpower,
material and time required;
Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, oral and
written orders;
Knowledge of technology (computer and/or mobile
device) to enter materials, labor hours, status and details of the work done
into the online work order management system;
Must
be able to work during the day, night or weekend hours to meet the operational
needs of the department;
Ability to assist in the effective operation of
the maintenance shops complex;
Ability to plan, schedule, implement, supervise
and evaluate;
Ability to develop effective work standards;
Ability to prepare reports;
Proficient written, oral and computerized
communication skills;
Must possess of an appropriate and valid Maryland motor vehicle
operator's license with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current
points, of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result
of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle;
and
Effective human relations skills, both internal
and external to the school system.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from high school required. Associate’s degree from an accredited college
or university with a degree in construction management, administration or the
social sciences preferred with thoroughly progressive responsible experience in
maintenance and construction trade areas including responsible foreman or
supervisory work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training
which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

May
oversee staff account clerks and field operations for special projects, when
necessary
