POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor for Maintenance, the Maintenance Training Specialist coordinates training and staff development initiatives for the Maintenance Department.  Under general direction, the employee plans, develops, integrates and administers training programs for employees of the Maintenance Department.  In instances where training programs are already established, an employee coordinates programs with supervisors, school officials, vendors and other staff to insure that the training program adequately meets the division's specific needs.  Where training programs do not exist, the employee will assist the director(s), supervisors, school officials, vendors and other staff in establishing training programs by advising them of training needs, resources available and required, and the best training methods available to meet the needs of staff.  The employee also assists management, school officials and supervisors in determining long-range training requirements and is responsible for developing and implementing training programs to meet those needs.  The employee makes recommendations to the director, supervisors, vendors and other staff members on ways training course content may be changed and/or improved by replacement/substitution of materials or presenters.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Participates in the study of the department operations to determine training needs of staff;

Participates in the planning of all department training programs;

Prepares informational bulletins, publications and pamphlets for staff concerning maintenance programs and procedures;

Develops and administers training programs of a generalized nature such as conducting induction training courses covering orientation, work procedures, interpretation of administrative rules and regulations; conducts supervisory management training courses; customer service and team work training;

Evaluates the effectiveness of training courses in terms of employee participation and for desired results achieved;

Coordinates the various specialized technical and professional training programs of the department through conferences with the director, supervisors and school officials; determining specific needs of such programs, advising on training methods as well as systematic approaches to training;

Develops or assists in developing training manuals, guides and training materials;

Plans, coordinates and if required, supervises a training rotation program for new employees and for employees who need refresher courses;

Establishes and maintains a training record tracking system for all staff;

Researches resources and makes recommendations concerning training opportunities available from public and private sources.  Coordinates with other training administrators as necessary;

Prepares annual reports and quarterly updates describing the training activities of the department;

Assists in the preparation and administration of the department training budget;

Maintains a library of training materials and resource manuals;

Makes recommendations for future changes and modifications of training programs; prepares and distributes a yearly, and if necessary a monthly, training calendar and schedule for staff and managers;

Travels throughout the County and, if necessary, the State to train or coordinate employees training programs; and

Performs other necessary duties as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Proficient skills in word-processing, spreadsheet, database software and the internet;

Excellent organizational skills and time management skills;

Work experience in an educational setting;

Knowledge of licensing, certifications and related standards associated with the building and construction trades;

Experience planning and organizing special events and seminars;

Ability to interact with the public and PGCPS staff with significant diplomacy, poise, a positive attitude and spirit of cooperation;

Demonstrated competence in verbal and written communication skills: grammar, punctuation and English usage;

Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations; and

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operators License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Associate's Degree from an accredited college required with four years of additional experience in employee development and training, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
