POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Marketing Communications Specialist is responsible for identifying and coordinating marketing communications and outreach opportunities in support of Prince George’s County Public Schools’ (PGCPS) overall mission. This position performs duties essential to the overall daily support of the Communications Office.  The incumbent has the responsibility for cultivating relationships with various stakeholder groups and assisting with specialized publications. Work involves considerable knowledge of the school system’s organization, policies, regulations, and an ability to exercise tact and sound judgment.  

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Develops and implements marketing communications plans to support a variety of efforts, including student and school achievements, teacher recruitment, student enrollment, employee communications, and sponsorship outreach;

Identifies, evaluates and executes opportunities to increase the visibility of Prince George’s County Public Schools among key audiences and to increase and retain strategic partners;

Acts as a liaison and resource to other departments working on outreach and engagement, publications, editing and content;

Creates, delivers, edits and optimizes marketing plans and materials in support of various offices within PGCPS and in support of the vision of PGCPS;

Manages the creation of school communications templates and other visual materials;

Manages marketing communications projects that utilize third-party graphic designers, photographers and video producers for design, marketing, public relations and creative support services as needed;

Maintains brand consistency and graphic identity with a strong eye for visual design elements, including logo design, creation of invitations and other marketing materials;

Assists with PGCPS advertising, branding, and outreach and engagement campaigns through an integrated approach of internal and external communication, media relations, media buying, social media, advertising production, graphic design and the website;

Assists in the planning and execution of other team and organizational priorities as needed, including public relations and charitable giving events;

Manages sponsorship deliverables and sponsor prospecting, including cash and in-kind sponsorships; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Extensive public contact experience with people of diverse cultures, language groups and abilities;

Demonstrated skill in respectful and sensitive communication with people at all levels within an organization who are diverse in their cultures, language groups and abilities;

Highly-organized; experienced in managing production and workflow;

Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional work relationships with other school officials, representatives of the county government, and the general public;

Effective planning and organization skills, as well as the ability to multitask and meet deadlines; and

Effective communication (oral and written) as well as human relations skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field; five (5) to seven (7) years related experience, preferably in K-12 school marketing; any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Provides guidance and direction to department staff members.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
